What are the responsibilities and job description for the Buyer/Planner position at Marion Body Works?
Within assigned divisions or products, this position is responsible for the Planning, Ordering, and monitoring of Purchased and Manufactured content, relying on our ERP system. They are responsible for planning the supply function from ordering of material from suppliers to the use of material in plant operations. Interaction with Leadership, Product Management, and Sales will be required to synchronize Production and Purchasing supply with customer demand.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Execution of Materials Plan
- Develop material plans for Purchased and Manufactured content to meet the goals and initiatives of the organization.

- Daily Requirements
- Generate Purchase Orders and/or Production Work Orders to support demands.
- Resolve supplier and/or manufacturing issues associated with inbound material, shop work order operations, obsolete, rework and scrap materials.
- Track and expedite shop orders as needed to support demands both internal and customer based.
- Provides direct back-up for coworkers across other divisions or products.
- Vendor Selection & Cost Management
- Recommend, to Senior Buyer(s), the investigation of new sources of supply for alternate supply streams.
- Participates with Senior Buyers in contract negotiation for cost competitiveness, plus compliance with company policies and standards
- Maintain supplier relationships to assure the timely delivery of material to meet production needs, escalating supplier lack of performance to Senior Buyer(s) or Leadership.
- Inventory Management
- Analyze inventories to determine how to increase inventory turns, reduce waste, or optimize customer service.
- Assist in the investigation of quantity inaccuracies that are requested from the Cycle Count/Materials Team.
- Process Improvement
- Participate in Process Improvements or Lean Activities that are conducted within the assigned area or product line.
- Executes supplier tracking procedures and reporting to enhance overall supplier performance.

- Negotiation and presentation skills to internal teammates, suppliers, and Sales Team.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to analyze information, develop plans, and monitor progress through follow-up
- Solid skills in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel)
- Ability to build rapport with co-workers, customers, and suppliers
- Moderate understanding of production products, Bills of Material, Routing Steps and material flow
- Ability to handle multiple projects at one time
- Intermediate knowledge of financial terms and principles
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Associate’s Degree in Business Administration or Supply Chain, or demonstrated equivalent experience with increases in responsibility.
- 2 years of progress experience Buyer/Planner or similar role.
Salary : $53,000 - $73,000
