What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accounting Clerk I position at Marion County Sheriff's Office?
This is a very responsible position requiring accurate accounting records of all Agency fiscal activities, disbursing checks and petty cash.A. Abide by the "Law Enforcement Code of Ethics".
B. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Agency fiscal activities and maintain accurate fiscal records.
C. Verify accuracy of invoices from vendors, prepare vouchers for accounts payable in accordance with Agency procedures, and process necessary information for issuance of checks.
D. Post disbursements to various ledgers and balance as required.
E. Issue receipts for moneys received as required.
F. Review travel authorizations for employees and issue checks and credit cards as required.
G. Be responsible for petty cash disbursements.
H. Be alert for conditions or situations which inhibit efficient operation of the Agency or the Fiscal Division, and make recommendations for solutions.
I. Perform any additional duties that may be required by the Sheriff or through necessity of situations.JOB PREREQUISITES:
High School Diploma or GED.
A minimum of one to two years of bookkeeping experience.
Ability to perform all functions of a fully charged bookkeeper and general office skills.
Ability to type a minimum of 35 correct words per minute.
Ability to handle confidential matters without compromising confidentiality.
Ability to follow instructions with minimal supervision.
Ability to organize own work.
Proficiency in English grammar, spelling and punctuation.
Ability to work harmoniously with the public and Agency personnel.WORKING CONDITIONS:
Normal office environment. Normal office hours but may be required to work overtime when necessary. May require some local travel.
