GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Independently performs a variety of responsible administrative legal support activities according to established practice and procedures.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the supervision of a Legal Assistant Supervisor, who assigns work, sets goals, and reviews work for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with department policies and goals.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Supervision of employees is not a responsibility of positions in this classification.
Preload recordation equipment with daily Grand Jury cases.
Prepare Discovery for Grand Jury Recordation process which could be in electronic or in hard copy form.
E-file indictments.
Bates stamp documents and prepare electronic discovery and upload to E prosecutor portal.
Perform other Discovery duties i.e..: Process evidence requests and download digital evidence, which includes copying CD’s, Blu-rays, and other forms of media.
Monitor discovery tasks. discovery email and process requests.
Reset defense attorney access and troubleshoot eDiscovery portal questions.
Notifies defense attorneys of additional materials and answers telephone inquiries.
Process additional discovery by scanning in reports/documents, bate stamping, and preparing electronic discovery packets.
Operate office machinery including copy machine, Blu-ray/CD copier, VCR copier, telephone, computer, and scanner.
Update all court actions, case status, court events, assignments, and all other necessary information daily.
Compare court events and notes with eCourts and make edits as needed.
Close out cases in system by comparing information from eCourts and Judgments.
Send copies of Judgments to agencies when evidence is seized/forfeited.
Miscellaneous tasks to support team such as scanning, generating documents, e-filing, adding witnesses/people to cases, filing, processing mail, et.
Crosstrain and back-up/provide support to Grand Jury Legal 1, Reception, and Intake.
Takes requests and order files.
Types letters or other correspondence.
Files/pulls warrants.
Special projects and or other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent; AND
- Two years of experience in office and secretarial work; OR
- Any satisfactory combination of work, education, training, or experience relevant to the position, as determined by Marion County.
- Supplemental secretarial training courses
- This position requires possession of, or obtain within 30 days of hire, Law Enforcement Data System (LEDS) certification.
- Must pass a criminal history background investigation, which includes fingerprinting; however, conviction of a crime may not necessarily disqualify an individual for this classification.
- This is a safety sensitive/special needs position. Final candidates selected for this position will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screen, including testing for marijuana. - This is a full-time position, which is eligible for overtime.
- Typical Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, with flexibility depending upon the needs of the department and program.
