Wage Range: $10.45 to $13.45
Position Overview: Under the direction of the Facilities Director and in accordance with the Strategic Road Map of the Marion Family YMCA, the after-hours custodian is responsible for maintaining a healthy and safe environment by performing after-hours routine janitorial and maintenance duties to ensure the cleanliness, sanitization, and upkeep of the facility. The incumbent must role model the YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
Position Requirements: Must be at least 18 years of age. Six months or more experience in facility cleaning is preferred. Must be able to carry out instructions and work independently; understand written and oral instructions; read and interpret documents such as SDS. Must have a basic understanding of the upkeep and care of equipment, cleaning compounds and chemicals, and their safe, efficient use. Slip resistant shoes are required. Obtain within 90 days and keep current certifications in First Aid and CPR with AED.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, talk, and hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms, climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Vision requirements include close and peripheral vision. The employee may be exposed to wet and or/humid conditions and occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
Requirements:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Maintain a facility that helps build meaningful relationships with members, participants, volunteers, guests, and donors.
2. Maintain a clean and sanitary environment by following all department and association protocols for health, cleaning, and sanitizing, and proactively cleaning and sanitizing any area of the building as needed.
3. Normal working hours are when the building is closed.
4. Ensure facility is attractive and clean by completing all duties listed on the daily schedule / assigned and maintains upkeep of assigned area and equipment including, but not limited to wet and dust mopping, dusting, trash and recycling removal, window cleaning, pool cleaning, vacuuming, lawn care, snow removal, cleaning the spa, track, and laundry.
5. Set up furniture for events as requested.
6. Assist Housekeeping Coordinator as needed.
7. Attend all in-service meetings and training courses as required.
8. Care for and maintain all YMCA equipment, supplies, and property.
9. Uphold YMCA policies and philosophy; use character development as a basis in working with members, participants, the public and staff.
10. Have complete knowledge of all association emergency procedures.
11. Maintain all necessary records as requested by the Housekeeping Coordinator.
12. Continually pursue and apply new and better ways to get work done. Take advantage of informal learning opportunities: listen and observe to gain new insight. Seek to expand my capabilities, skills, and knowledge.
13. As opportunities arise, work to nurture the potential of youth and teens; help people improve their well-being; and provide opportunities for people to give back and support their neighbors.
14. Conduct self in a professional, friendly, helpful, courteous, enthusiastic, and diplomatic manner.
15. All other duties as assigned.
