The Mark Twain Healthcare District is now looking for an enthusiastic, motivated, Behavioral Health Medical Assistant (MA) to join our talented team, working full-time in our beautiful Behavioral Health expansion in our outpatient Valley Springs Health & Wellness Center Clinic. This MA will be caring for all age groups, with an emphasis on Behavioral Health, therefore Behavioral Health experience is preferred. General Summary: Perform administrative, clerical and clinical duties under the direction of the Medical Staff and within the scope of Medical Assistant Practice as governed by the Medical Board of California. The Medical Assistant will have completed a training program for Medical Assistants in a certified training program and will have completed testing for certification in medical assisting and phlebotomy.
Hours of Operation: Monday through Friday 0730 - 1730
Employment is contingent on passing a pre-employment background check and drug test.
Education and Experience:
- Completion of a Medical Assistant Certification Program.
- 1 year minimum experience, 2 years experience preferred
- Family and/or behavioral health experience preferred
Essential Job Functions: This Medical Assistant will room behavioral health patients, including tele-psychiatry, completing all follow-up testing, lab draws, EKGs and providing informational materials as ordered, as well as calling to verify appointments, rescheduling and keeping the provider's schedule full. There will be administrative tasks and projects between patients and in downtime. The MA will perform but not be limited to the following:
- Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms neat, clean and stocked with supplies.
- Record patients' medical history, vital statistics, or information such as test results in the patients' medical record.
- Interview patients to obtain medical information and measure their vital signs, weight and height.
- Show patients to the exam room and prepare them for practitioner examination and/or procedure.
- Assist the practitioner with examinations, instruments, supplies and procedures.
- Prepare and administer approved medications as directed by physician.
- Collect and perform any ordered in office laboratory testing and quality control testing and log on the appropriate laboratory log.
- Collect and complete requisitions for laboratory testing to be sent to an outside laboratory.
- Assist with discharge, assuring patient has a full understanding of aftercare instructions, and has all required dressings, dme, notes and written aftercare notes.
- Assist patients in obtaining referrals and any needed specialty or any required appointments.
- Knowledgeable of and consistently performs duties consistent with infection control, universal precautions and patient safety.
- Clean and sterilize instruments and equipment and dispose of contaminated supplies.
- Assist with unpacking, monitoring and stocking supplies in storage areas.
- Monitor and assist with keeping patient care areas, restrooms, waiting areas and employee break and work areas clean and stocked with supplies.
- Attend and perform assigned tasks at community events, programs and any District -sponsored program.
- General office duties such as answering telephones, scheduling patient appointments, performing receptionist tasks, managing financial records, bookkeeping duties, insurance verification, credit and collections.
- Attend classes, trainings and in-services to keep skills and knowledge current.
- Any other duties as assigned by the charge nurse and/or Clinic Manager.
