The Assistant General Manager (“AGM”) supports the General Manager (“GM”) in leading all departments within their retail store in the common goal of ensuring exceptional customer experiences while maintaining a positive team culture. This role is a crucial liaison between in-store staff and upper management and assists in overseeing all service components, cash and inventory management, and security teams, and all respective training and development. This role helps monitor and supervise all activities in the dispensary, ensures regulatory compliance and promotes best practices in the use of cannabis while never losing sight of achieving outlined KPI’s to ensure the success of the retail business.

Key Functions

  • In addition to all responsibilities outlined below, and in order to promote a global mindset and to lead by example, the Assistant General Manager is responsible for all the same key functions of all subordinates including, but may not be limited to that of: supervisors, customer service staff, inventory personnel, and security staff.
  • Is committed to creating and maintaining a fun and productive work environment by valuing, recognizing, and promoting honesty, integrity, and direct communication.

  • Inspires and motivates teams by leading by example, creating a positive atmosphere, encouraging a customer first philosophy, and promoting a global mindset.
  • Ensures the consistent delivery of exceptional customer experience through regular training, coaching, motivation, and positive reinforcement.
  • Assumes personal responsibility for the overall experience and standards in the retail store including, but not limited to, effective merchandising, adequate coverage, customer service excellence, cleanliness and tidiness, organization, and efficiency.
  • Coaches in the moment and provides regular individualized attention to all staff members.
  • Remains highly in tune with performance level of all staff, composes and enacts growth and performance improvement plans, hosting regular performance reviews in partnership with GM.
  • Supports the GM with interviewing, hiring, on-boarding, training, and management of dispensary staff.
  • Is highly committed to the growth, development, and success of all staff members.
  • Helps train and develop the staff in accordance with company policies, practices, and procedures, as well supports the GM to ensures all dispensary staff members remain up to date on mandatory training and registrations, in compliance with both Company policies as well as State and local law.
  • Partners with the GM to host regular meetings with staff to assess goals, objectives, and task performance, identify developmental opportunities, and ensures consistency and streamlined operations.
  • Consistent in holding all team members accountable for job descriptions, goals, and policies.
  • Utilizes reward and recognition to encourage high levels of performance.
  • Supports the GM by documenting HR matters, employee performance, and progressive disciplinary actions.
  • Helps to ensure consistent adherence to SOPs, in compliance with applicable regulations; and ensures legislative and procedural changes relevant to cannabis are effectively communicated and trained to dispensary staff.
  • Ensures training of customer care staff ensuring thorough knowledge of usage methods, products, and strains.
  • Maintains and translates to staff knowledge on all aspects of the cannabis industry to ensure customers are benefitting from the most up to date and effective cannabis practices.
  • Supports the GM is achieving KPI’s including but not limited to sales, customer service, inventory levels, payroll, overall profit, etc.
  • Reports feedback and suggestions to GM, as well as corporate teams, regarding local markets and demographics.
  • Makes suggestions to the GM to improve business practices, procedures, and operations.
  • Supports with ensuring accurate and efficient inventory tracking.
  • Helps ensure SOP adherence to promote reporting consistency, mitigate loss, and to remain in compliance with State and local law.
  • Communicates needs for adequate stock level, proper product assortment, and consistent replenishment to the GM and merchandising team(s).
  • Makes suggestions to GM and merchandising team(s) for products, specials, and campaigns.
  • Ensures cash in store is regularly counted, cross-checked, balanced, and documented.
  • Ensures streamlined cash tracking procedures that mitigate loss.
  • Reports variances to GM and supports prompt investigations of variances in cash and/or inventory, with proper communication, documentation, and rehabilitation in accordance with State and local law.
  • Holds team accountable for consistent and accurate cash handling practices.
  • Helps ensure consistent adherence to optimal safety and security standards.
  • Partners with security team to proactively recognize risk and develop action plans to mitigate.
  • Ensures all team members act in accordance with all safety, security, and compliance measures.
  • May assume areas of responsibilities including, but not limited to, supply ordering, scheduling, training monitoring, etc.

Essential Skills

  • Committed to “Why” communication, especially in proposing, implementing, and enforcing strategy and process.
  • Strong skills in data development and analysis with the ability to train others.
  • Proven record in people management and participating in the development of strong teams.
  • Ability to adapt to various learning styles in training and utilizing inspirational leadership.
  • Savvy in POS, Business Intelligence, Bookkeeping, and Microsoft Suite softwares.
  • Must learn compliance and regulatory demands pertaining to cannabis.
  • Ability to assume a strong passion for cannabis knowledge and education, as it pertains to products and the industry as a whole.
  • Ability to understand policies and procedures and follow appropriately.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or greater is preferred.
  • 3 years experience managing customer-facing teams in a high volume, fast-paced setting, preferably in retail or hospitality. Experience in regulated cannabis or other highly regulated industry is desirable.
  • As required by State and local law.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $60,000.00 per year
