Markey’s is seeking an ambitious and energetic Business Development Specialist to join our Indianapolis Headquarters Office. This position will be responsible for driving new business both regionally and nationally, with a heavy emphasis on national associations, building relationships with potential clients and enhancing the company’s exposure in the market.  The role involves market research, creative sales strategies and partnership development.  This person will work closely with the Markey’s marketing and national account managers to create proposals and opportunities for new business growth.

This is a full-time, exempt (salaried) position that reports directly to the Director of Business Development / VP of Hotel Partnerships.  Typical daytime hours Monday - Friday, and will include occasional evening or weekend work as dictated by client meetings and networking events.

Position Responsibilities

Business Development

  • Must be comfortable with grassroots prospecting through the internet, LinkedIn, print and trade publications.
  • Must be comfortable with various outreach techniques such as daily phone calls, email solicitation, in-person meetings and social selling techniques.
  • Solicit leads from other sources as they are presented and / or assigned.
  • Engage with existing customers to ensure satisfaction and encourage repeat business.
  • Stay up to date with local economic development news through memberships and networking.
  • Ability to write and design written proposals and to have a part in the presentation of the proposal.
  • Maintain prospect files and track prospect activity.
  • Track submitted proposals and present feedback to the Business Development Team.
  • Attend and participate in internal business pipeline meetings.

Relationship Management

  • Attend industry events, conferences, and networking functions to expand the company’s professional network and establish key business relationships
  • Become an active member and attendee of the local Convention & Visitor Bureau meetings and events.
  • Become an active member of industry associations such as PCMA, MPI, ASAE, etc. and seek out committee member opportunities.
  • Seek opportunities to be an exhibitor at industry trade shows while working with marketing on the design and concept of the Markey’s trade show booth.
  • Seek opportunities to partner with Convention & Visitor Bureaus at area trades shows.
  • Attend Markey’s sponsored events (lunches, dinners, special events) hosting customers and prospects.
  • Marketing Support

  • Provide social media input and content.
  • Seek and fulfill sponsorship opportunities for targeted customers, associations, CVB and other local organizing groups.
  • Requirements

  • 2 years of experience in client sales, business development, or hospitality industry preferred.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service skills and maintain a professional appearance and attitude at all times.
  • Present excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with internal and external customers at all levels.
  • Computer proficiency and thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office software - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Possess a high level of attention to detail, excellent time management skills, and ability to multi-task and prioritize work responsibilities.
  • Capable of facilitating meetings effectively.
  • Possess a clean driving record and be insurable on the Markey’s company vehicle insurance policy.
  • General knowledge of Event Technology solutions or equipment is a plus.
