This is a Continuing Position.

Summary Statement:

This position requires a Spanish/English proficiency test.  Applicants who successfully pass the language proficiency exam score at the Advanced-mid or higher.  EPS uses the ACTFL language rubrics in speaking and writing to interpret and verify assessment results.  Any candidate with a recent Spanish/English proficiency test score from a recognized agency (within one year) can submit those scores in lieu of testing.  It is strongly recommended that applicants applying for this position hold a Bilingual and/or EL endorsement and have knowledge/ understanding and/or experience in English Language Development and Dual Language Education.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Create a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to learning for all students.
  • Assess students’ bilingually in academic learning, and/or skills to provide feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding progress, expectations, and goals.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations, including attendance, IEP information, progress reports, cumulative records, and classroom inventory
  • Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, students, and parents in order to continuously improve student outcomes.
  • Implement instructional methods and materials that are most appropriate for achieving stated objectives for instruction and student success.
  • Create an environment that provides a safe and optimal learning environment for students.
  • Educate multilingual learners and dually identified special needs students within the regular classroom environment in collaboration with other staff.
  • Become familiar with, uphold, and assist in enforcing of school rules, administrative regulations, and board policy.
  • Demonstrate a professional and positive attitude when carrying out responsibilities as a staff
  • Participate in staff meetings, planning events, grade-level/department/PLC/coaching cycles/job-alike sessions, learning labs, and district committees as requested.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development at the school and district level.
  • Ability to modify curriculum and materials designed for use in other contexts.
  • Participate in State, Federal, and District testing requirements.
  • Demonstrate cultural competence and commitment to equity in outcomes and opportunities for adults and students.
    • Lead for equity towards college and career readiness.
    • Nurture a school environment that celebrates, respects, and values diversity where teaching and learning are relevant and meaningful to students of various cultures.
    • Address equity gaps for various student groups with plans for their elimination.
    • Initiate activities and discussions to enhance cultural competence and expand teaching practices.

Additional Essential Functions for Dual Language Teachers:

  • Implement Evergreen Public Schools’ instructional vision for biliteracy along with the guaranteed viable curriculum.
  • Teach elementary content & bilingual language standards with a high degree of skill.
  • Teach in a 90/10 bilingual instructional program that meets students’ individual academic and linguistic needs, making modifications when necessary.
  • Support students in acquiring bilingual and biliteracy skills aligned with dual language program goals.
  • Participate in professional learning specific to biliteracy, dual language instruction, and language acquisition strategies.
  • Use Common Core State Standards (CCSS), including Spanish CCSS, and WIDA to plan and provide effective, differentiated instruction using research-based practices.
  • Conduct assessments in both Spanish and English to ensure advanced bilingualism and biliteracy.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Washington State teaching certificate appropriate for assignment with an endorsement in Elementary Education.
  • Bilingual and biliterate in Spanish and English. Advanced-mid or higher fluency in Spanish required (reading, writing and speaking); native Spanish speakers preferred.
  • Holds or is in process of obtaining the Washington State EL and/or Bilingual Endorsement.
  • Successful completion of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution of higher learning.
  • Successfully complete Washington State Patrol background check. Employee is responsible for the cost of the background
  • Must be flexible, exhibit a commitment to accomplishment, possess outstanding communication and conceptual skills, demonstrate appropriate and positive student relationships, possess a strong professional orientation, and be willing to actively participate in a team environment.
  • Must have regular, consistent attendance.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of curriculum integration and a commitment to improve and refine instructional and management skills by participating in professional development.
  • Demonstrated willingness and ability to use a variety of research-based effective instructional strategies.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of technology and an ability to incorporate into instructional programs.
  • Demonstrated compatibility with staff, program, and school goals.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a positive attitude with students and adults (staff and parents).
  • Demonstrates awareness, appreciation, and respect of diversity among students and adults.
  • Sets appropriate expectations for individual students.
  • Demonstrated successful teaching experience at the designated grade level preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge or experience in the Workshop Model of Instruction preferred.
  • Familiarity with or willingness to acquire knowledge of dual language models and curriculum.
  • Experience in working with children and families who are culturally, linguistically and racially diverse.
  • Demonstrated experience using data to inform instruction.
  • Preferred training and/or experience; or willingness to take course work to increase knowledge and use of the following instructional and engagement strategies to include:
    1. Use of English and Spanish Language Proficiency Standards (WIDA) for planning and assessment.
    2. Bilingual education content pedagogy methods and instructional strategies that support academic core content attainment, bilingualism, biliteracy and multiculturalism 
    3. Sheltered Instruction Techniques
    4. Culturally & Linguistically Responsive Teaching 
    5. Parent and Community Involvement
