The Senior Manager, Global Enterprise Performance, plays a critical role as a major insight and strategy provider in support of Marriott’s Customer Group and the broader enterprise. This role will support the Senior Director, Enterprise Performance in developing customer insights and strategies and working with teams across the organization to address implications. The Senior Manager will leverage all technical resources available to ensure the consumer is kept at the center of key business decisions. A critical role of the Senior Manager will be to understand key questions that are being (or should be) asked by the business teams, identify the appropriate solutions and business information sources (including research, analytics, and third-party information) to answer such questions, and synthesize data and insights into actionable steps to drive the business forward. The Senior Manager will also be responsible for managing and coordinating a number of cross-functional efforts across Marriott’s broader Strategy, Business Intelligence, and Data Operations team, including the monthly Insights Package, quarterly Corporate Communications/PR Insights report, and the Enterprise Competitive Scorecard. The Senior Manager will also structure and coordinate analytics requests of key external partners to provide additional insight to strategic initiatives. 

 

The Senior Manager will demonstrate knowledge on relevant issues, products, systems, and processes, keeping up-to-date on the market, consumer trends, competitive dynamics, and emerging threats.

 

This is a very high-visibility role, with frequent presentations to, and interactions with, senior leaders.

 

CANDIDATE PROFILE 

 

Education and Experience Required 

  • 4-year degree from an accredited college or university 
  • MBA
  • Five or more years’ experience in corporate strategy or management/strategy consulting, demonstrating progressive career growth and a pattern of exceptional performance
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize business and consumer data from multiple sources into insights with practical application to business needs
  • Experience applying basic business strategy frameworks (e.g., 3 C’s, 4P’s, Porter’s 5 Forces)
  • Experience using a hypothesis-driven approach to answer a business question and identifying ways to test hypotheses
  • Experience supporting transformational strategies for business units
  • Demonstrated quantitative acumen, including ability to use Excel to conduct data analysis
  • Demonstrated ability to find structure, logic, and insight in complex business problems to provide meaningful conclusions
  • Experience working with data and analytics teams
  • Strong project management skills and experience balancing multiple projects or responsibilities simultaneously
  • Understands and can articulate viewpoint from “voice of customer”
  • Executive presence and the ability to present to and discuss complex topics with senior leaders
  • Five or more years’ experience in the hospitality industry, demonstrating progressive career growth and a pattern of exceptional performance
  • Experience managing and defining transformational strategies for business units
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver results under difficult conditions, particularly when faced with complexity and ambiguity

Supports Enterprise Strategy

  • Produces synthesized insights, implications and related strategic recommendations that drive customer-centric strategy and initiative development. Continues to partner/advise business leaders as recommendations and strategies are brought to life.
  • Connects the dots between insight sources (research, analytics, third-party sources) and business goals to develop and communicate recommendations that inform business strategy, key recommendations, and enterprise action.
  • Builds thought leadership on the future state of the hospitality and travel industries, and potential impact to Marriott’s overall strategy.
  • Enables Marriott International to move quickly by crisply framing a problem space, potential paths, and tradeoffs.
  • Tackles hard, cross-disciplinary questions with rigor and independence, owning small projects from problem definition to final recommendation(s).
  • Owns pieces of larger, enterprise projects, developing own workplan and hypotheses, identifying data and research to test hypotheses, and synthesizing conclusions into a compelling story.
  • Develops storyboards, including Executive Summary, slide headers and data, and implications/recommendations.
  • Effectively coordinates with extended Strategy, Business Intelligence, and Data Operations team members, and, when needed, external vendors/suppliers to ensure that they clearly understand and deliver on work objectives in a timely, high quality, and cost-effective manner.
  • Effectively manages multiple internal clients, projects and disciplines simultaneously.
  • Establishes, documents, and encourages the use of re-usable/repeatable processes for the creation and distribution of team deliverables.

 

Owns Consumer Trends Updates & Leadership Awareness

  • Maintains an external mindset, including staying on top of consumer, competitive, and macroeconomic/geopolitical trends.
  • Understands and communicates insights on the impact of consumer and travel trends on our business.
  • Owns monthly consumer Insights Package update, highlighting key trends within and outside the industry and their impact on MI.
  • Owns development and presentation of quarterly Corporate Communications/PR Insights report to ensure executive team is aware of key industry/travel trends, competitor responses and the impact on MI, both in speaking points and in answers to expected questions, ahead of quarterly Earnings Release calls.

  • Communicates concepts in a clear and persuasive manner that is easy to understand.
  • Generates and provides accurate and timely results in the form of reports, presentations, etc.

  • Promotes the documenting of project progress accurately.
  • Provides input and assistance to other teams regarding projects.
