Overview
Marshall County REMC is a rural electric distribution cooperative located in northern Indiana. The cooperative is in Plymouth, IN and serves approximately 7,000 meters and 1,100 miles of line to homes, farms, schools, businesses and industries.
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Journeyman Lineman to join our team. This role is essential in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of electrical systems, particularly in high voltage environments. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in utility work and be adept at using various tools and equipment necessary for line construction and maintenance.
Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, and repair electrical distribution systems, including overhead and underground lines.
- Perform utility locating to ensure the safety of excavation activities.
- Operate bucket trucks and rigs for line work at elevated heights.
- Utilize voltmeters, ohmmeters, and other diagnostic tools to troubleshoot electrical issues.
- Climbing electric poles required for installation and maintenance tasks.
- Collaborate with team members on construction sites to ensure adherence to safety protocols.
- Conduct inspections of electrical systems to identify potential hazards or areas for improvement.
Skills
- Proficient in utility locating techniques and equipment.
- Experience operating voltmeters and ohmmeters for electrical testing.
- Familiarity with rigging practices and bucket truck operations.
- Knowledge of high voltage systems and safety procedures related to electrical work.
- Must be able to climb poles and perform required construction and maintenance work, safely, at pole top, including pole top rescue.
- Background with distribution electrical systems is a plus.
- Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail in all tasks performed.
- Must be able to understand and practice safety rules.
- Must be able to communicate in a respectful, positive manner.
- Must have indicated the ability to work on own initiative, cooperate with other employees, to train and take instruction.
Education and Experience
- Must have a Class A Indiana Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
- A high school diploma or GED
- Successful completion of a powerline apprenticeship program.
- Experience working with overhead underground electric distribution lines and facilities, including line construction, maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Hot line work experience (desired).
- Knowledge of RUS line specifications, the National Electric Code, the National Electric Safety Code and OSHA Rules and Regulations.
Requirements/Expectations
- Must live within 30 minutes (30 miles) of legal driving time from the office.
- A pre-employment physical, drug screening and background checks are required.
- Heavy work requiring up to 100 pounds of force occasionally a lifting/carrying of 10 to 50 pounds frequently.
- Reaching and lifting overhead is required.
- Must have indicated the ability to work on own initiative, cooperate with other employees, to train and take instruction.
