What are the responsibilities and job description for the Histology Tech - Pathology (Full Time) position at Marshall Health Network?
St. Mary's Medical Center is seeking a full time Histology Tech for our Pathology Department . The Histology Tech, under the direction of the section supervisor or designee, receives and accurately processes surgical or diagnostic tissue specimens from various departments and physician offices. Accurately prepares histological slides from tissue sections for microscopic examination and diagnosis by a pathologist. Identifies, prepares, cuts, stains and preserves specimens in such a manner as to assist the pathologist in rendering a reliable diagnosis. Maintains Pathology laboratory equipment and supplies, and monitors daily quality control. Performs and maintains accurate files. Prepares for and attends tumor board meetings. Observes safety regulations.
EDUCATION :
Has obtained Histotechnician (HT) certification from the American College of Pathology (ASCP) or is Board of Registry eligible or has also successfully completed a NAACLS Accredited Histotechnician certified program PLUS a current WVDHHR State License. Has obtained an Associate Degree from an accredited College or University in Medical Laboratory Science or at least 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) of academic credit from a regionally accredited College or University PLUS a current WVDHHR State License.
Staff already employed before new training regulations instituted in 2014 ( previously only needed high school graduation and on the job training) are grandfathered in. This staff must keep a current WVDHHR State License.
EXPERIENCE :
None, if certified by the ASCP Board of Registry or eligible for certification.

Thorough knowledge of histologic techniques; ability to work well with others; highly developed sense of responsibility and awareness of importance of work; dedication to profession and acceptance of demands of the supervisors.
