The assistant teacher is responsible for assisting in providing a safe and developmentally appropriate early childhood program in accordance with all relevant licensing, policies, and procedures. The classroom will be hosted on Marshall University’s Huntington Campus and will be operated by the June Harless Center.
Responsibilities’ Of The Position Include
- Support the lead teacher in implementing a developmentally appropriate early childhood program that aligns with the current state standards. Support experiences to meet the following needs:
- Gross and fine motor development
- Social and emotional development (to include culturally appropriate experiences)
- Cognitive skills (to include literacy and numeracy concepts)
- Supervise children in the classroom and maintain health/safety protocols.
- Follow established routines and provide positive guidance
- Observe children and make note of progress
- Be familiar with emergency procedures and be prepared to fulfill responsibilities in emergency situations
- Administer medication and first aid when necessary
- Communicate with families and members of the community.
- Discuss children’s development and progress with families
- Collaborate with the lead teacher and other professionals related to areas of concern and identified needs as appropriate
- Keep families informed of program expectations and program activities
- Assist in providing high-quality early learning experiences based on children’s innate interests and curiosities while utilizing the community as a resource for exploration.
- Participate in professional development related to Reggio Emilia inspired classrooms, STEAM concepts in early childhood, and developmentally appropriate programming for young children
- Perform other duties as assigned by lead teacher and early childhood coordinator.
