The Department of English at Marshall University seeks to fill a three-year term faculty position at the rank of Instructor to begin in August 2025. Candidates must provide strong evidence of excellence in teaching and commitment to teaching the Marshall University student population. Tied to courses in the composition sequence (ENG 101,101P, 201, and 201H), as well as other courses in the general-education curriculum of the University and the College of Liberal Arts, this position involves a teaching load of 12hours/semester (fall and spring). All Marshall University faculty must display a commitment to general education, including requirements for critical-thinking classes and writing-intensive requirements.
The department also seeks candidates who will contribute to the University’s general education curriculum and its emphasis on using high-impact teaching practices, particularly those affiliated with one (or more) of the institution’s pedagogical initiatives(e.g., Community-based Learning, Critical Thinking, First Year Seminar, Writing Across Curriculum, etc.). Additionally, the ideal candidate will contribute to the College’s support of interdisciplinary programs of study.
Duties will include a full-time teaching load of 12 hours per semester, in addition to participation in service, scholarship and/or creative activities, and other duties as designated by the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts and/or Chair of the Department of English. The search committee requests that applicants submit a letter of application, a statement of teaching philosophy, a current CV, two sample syllabi appropriate to first-year composition courses, and unofficial transcripts (undergraduate and graduate). The search committee also requests that applicants submit names and contact information of three references who could speak directly to your teaching experience, ability, and/or promise. (The successful candidate will be asked to submit official transcripts.)
Completed electronic applications received by March 3, 2025, will receive priority consideration. Renewal of this appointment will be dependent upon enrollment and budget, as well as performance.
Location MU - Marshall University Salary Range $36,300; Salary is commensurate with qualifications, experience, and internal equity.
