The mission of the Foundation is to support and promote the activities and programs of Marshall University. This is accomplished by providing advice and counsel regarding fundraising and philanthropy, investing and managing gifts and pledges for the University and providing a strong base of private-sector support for the University.
Duties:
Under general supervision, performs accounting support duties, primarily in support of gift processing. The incumbent is responsible for performing moderately complex posting, coding of transactions, and examining records to assure adherence to relevant laws and regulations. Performs related work as required.
Classifies/codes a variety of transactions in accordance with internal and regulatory policies and guidelines which may require considerable knowledge or research. Reviews accounts, ledgers, and supporting documentation for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with laws and regulations. Prepares bank deposits and/or checks. Makes correcting and/or adjusting entries on ledger. Examines accounting records to assure adherence to accounting laws and regulations; verifies calculations and ensures accuracy and validity of transactions. Performs moderately complex posting and balancing of transactions. Maintains accounting records; gathers data and prepares moderate to complex reconciliations and reports from records maintained. May assist supervisor in preparing analytical materials by compiling data and preparing summaries and requests. May train and review the work of clerical staff. Support of other accounting and organizational activities as deemed appropriate.

Qualifications
Must be able to perform all essential job duties as outlined in the job description.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Graduation from a standard four-year high school or the equivalent.
Experience
- Knowledge of accounting laws and regulations related to charitable contributions.
- Knowledge of basic mathematical computations.
- Knowledge of an automated computer accounting system.
- Skill in the use of a calculator.
- Skill in the use of office equipment such as a copier, fax machine, and personal computer.
- Demonstrate integrity in work product and commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to gather and compile data for use in financial reports.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to think and work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to train and review the work of others.
Preferred Qualifications
Education
- Three years of full-time or equivalent part time paid bookkeeping, accounting or related experience preferred.
