Marshall University’s Department of Housing and Residence Life seeks outgoing,energetic, and skilled applicants for a full-time, 12 month live-in professional responsiblefor one of three residential living communities at Marshall University. Each communityhouses between 250-675 students. Area Coordinators are responsible for the dailyadministration of their community and direct supervision of a team of 6-28 ResidentAdvisors and 1 Assistant Area CoordinatorGeneral ResponsibilitiesSupervision and Staff DevelopmentSupervise Resident Advisors and an Assistant Area Coordinator and conductsindividual meetings, bi-annual evaluations, etc.Contribute and encourage the development of positive working relationships withall residence life staff.Attend and organize weekly staff meetings with building staff and/or departmentalstaffAssist with selecting, training, development and in-service activities for theparaprofessional staff.Assist with coordination of fall & spring training as well as ongoing personal andprofessional staff development opportunities.Coordinate one of the following over the summer monthsSummer Area CoordinatorSummer ConferencesCoordinate one of the three following collateralsStudent Staff TrainingCoordinate schedule completions and distribution, confirmation of speakers, foodorders, theme, t-shirts development and distribution, evening activitiesOversees speaker(s) and room reservation, training meals and food purchases,material requests for Staff trainingOversees supplemental training of fall sessions that won’t fit into spring trainingfor new staffStudent Staff SelectionCoordinate advertisement, interview schedule, interview questions, applicationcreation, communication with applicants, training staff on interviewing, preinterview application assessment (conduct and grade check)Creates marketing strategies and theme for each selection process.Update letters pertinent to student staff selection in E Rez LifeCreate post analytics regarding applicant scores to guide hiringSet up selection meetings for hiringStudent LeadershipMentor and be available to student leaders throughRHAandNRHHCoordinate Student Leadership campus wide fundraiser through Campus CubeServe as senior advisor to Residence Hall Association executive boardServe as senior advisor to National Residence Hall Honorary chapterOversee participation and organizing of student leadership conferencesPlan and Facilitate the annual Housing and Residence Life BanquetStudent and Community DevelopmentCreate and promote a caring atmosphere conducive to student learning,academic success, and to the personal development of residence hall students.Promote an atmosphere that emphasizes Marshall’s values (academicachievement, personal freedom & integrity, dignity and respect for the individual,diversity and inclusiveness, sustainability, and service).Work with Assistant Area Coordinators to assess effectiveness of hall traditions &learning outcomes.Encourage behavior that demonstrates professionalism, role modeling, andpositive communication.Maintain a high level of residence hall visibility and interactionImplement and manage residential curriculum and learning outcomes incommunity.Develop and maintain a positive and mutually supportive working relationship withall campus offices.Facilitate and implement academic initiatives such as collaboration with faculty,promoting study groups and tutoring, working with relevant MU MarshallUniversity academic offices.Advise and counsel individual students, making referrals when needed.Assist in the management of student behavior through conduct sanctioning andstudent advising.Hear, adjudicate, and mediate student housing conduct process.Facilitate roommate mediation process within your assigned community.Assist with university and housing recruitment, orientation, and retention efforts.Administrative/ManagementImplement goals and objectives that are consistent with those of the Departmentof Housing and Residence Life.Responsible for facility management, housing operations, and all housingprocesses in your community.Serve on an on-call duty coverage rotation and responds to emergency or non-emergency situations for campus community on nights, weekdays, weekends andholidays.Maintain office hours (as set by your supervisor) and uphold high degree ofavailability and visibility for all residents.Oversee residence hall desk operationsEffectively manage area and committee budgets, as well as conduct allpurchasing for hall activities in accordance with state purchasing expectationsExhibit effective time management strategies and excellence in executing tasks.Ability to take tasks and work independently and with accuracy.Work with confidence and maturity; and understands confidentiality withinappropriate settings.Participate in department initiatives such as strategic planning, retentioninitiatives, departmental programming, Housing Sign-ups, Week of Welcome,Opening and Closing of residence halls.Work collaboratively with others in the department, division, Student Affairs anduniversity.Enforce University and departmental policies and procedures.Understand there will be other duties as assigned by supervisors.
