What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accountant position at MarshBerry?
MarshBerry is currently seeking an Accountant for our Beachwood, OH office. The Accountant provides accounting support for all of MarshBerry’s entities by processing and reviewing accounting transactions to ensure accuracy and compliance of processes and procedures. The Accountant will assist with process improvement initiatives including, but not limited to, enhancements and management of accounting system, streamlining processes while maintaining effectiveness and efficiency, and developing processes and procedures as well as their ongoing review.
Responsibilities:
- Complete month end closings including, but not limited to, processing transactions, journal entries, account analysis, and reconciliations.
- Responsible for all Accounts Payable including maintaining vendor files, obtaining proper approval for invoices, processing payments, and annual 1099’s.
- Process invoices for payment while ensuring proper approvals and signoffs have been obtained.
- Perform transactions including posting journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations, reviewing general ledger transactions, cash applications and lockbox payments.
- Maintain Fixed Assets including depreciation schedules, properly record new purchases, transfers, disposals, and physical inventories of all locations.
- Monitor Accounting Inbox as well as provide support and recommend solutions for questions or issues received.
- Assist with year-end audit.
- Contribute to ongoing enhancements for the accounting software package, collaborating with IT and business units to continuously improve accounting system reporting capabilities.
- Develop and maintain written documentation and procedures for all processes and assist with maintaining the Accounting Compliance calendar.
- Cultivate and maintain effective relationships with potential internal and external clients, partners and stakeholders that can directly or indirectly lead to revenue generation for all MarshBerry services.
- Other duties and projects as assigned.
Selection Criteria
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree required in Finance, Accounting, or Business Management. CPA is a plus.
- 1-3 years or more of general accounting experience.
- Proficient with technology including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
- Experience with accounting and finance software packages. Microsoft Great Plains experience preferred.
- Professional presentation skills and ability to work with internal and external clients.
- Solid analytical and proactive problem-solving skills; uses techniques to identify and resolve issues in a timely manner and able to make appropriate decisions.
- Maintains confidentiality with proprietary information and all internal and external communications.
