JOB SUMMARY
The Oncology Research Nurse plays a key role in presenting treatment alternatives and an assessment of treatment risks and benefits associated with each clinical trial. The oncology research nurse’s primary role is to ensure completeness, accuracy and compliance with each protocol and to assist principal investigators and coinvestigators of clinical studies in coordinating and facilitating the activities of participants in clinical research protocols. This individual is also responsible for identifying clinically significant events through patient assessments and review of a variety of medical documents (e.g. medical records, laboratory reports). The Oncology Research Nurse is responsible for following institutional standards of research nursing practice within his / her scope of duties and responsibilities.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
Minimum Required : Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Preferred / Optional : BSN
EXPERIENCE
Minimum Required : Two years’ of progressively more responsible nursing or medical data management / abstraction experience with a minimum of six months of RN work experience.
Preferred / Optional : Two to three years’ of clinical research and protocol management.
CERTIFICATIONS / LICENSES
Minimum Required :
- Current Applicable State Registered Nurse License or Nurse Compact License.
- CITI Course in The Protection of Human Research Subjects certification through Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) within 90 days of hire.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA) within three months of hire.
Preferred / Optional : Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN)
