What are the responsibilities and job description for the Administrator of Special Education (Anticipated) position at Martha's Vineyard Regional High School?
Requirements involve:
* Oversee and facilitate a wide variety of meetings as outlined by IDEA and state laws
(e.g. training, hearings, team meetings, workshops, in-service programs, etc.) for the purpose of
providing or receiving information.
* Collaborate effectively with MVRHS staff, families, special education teachers, and the community for the
purpose of planning, developing, implementing, maintaining and evaluating special education services and/or programs
* Manage complex and challenging cases, by maintaining effective parent, staff, advocate and outside evaluator contact
* Provide direct administrative oversight to the specialized programs
* Plan for and contribute to effective transitions for students and their families
* Work with other Martha's Vineyard Regional High School administrators to ensure consistency, cohesion
and coordination of practices across the school
* Assist in training, and supervising, all assigned teachers
* Meet with classroom teachers and principal to discuss individual programs to be designed for children who will
receive inclusion instruction, with particular emphasis being given to new teachers and those with special instructional needs
* Act as liaison between special education teachers and administrators, classroom teachers, and the Director of Student Support Services
* Maintains a direct line of communication to the Director of Student Services to support service issues and concerns
* Coordinate services with school psychologists, speech therapists, occupational therapists, physical therapists and
other related service providers as needed
* Coordinate schedule and evaluate Educational Support Professionals to be in classrooms to support students with general education supports identified on their IEP's.
* Coordinate with the Director of Students Support Services, the out of district placements and monitoring of these programs and students.
* Evaluates District and school Special Education programs and monitors the implementation of special education and compliance
* Maintains a high level of knowledge regarding developing special education issues, changes in the laws and case law, and educational methods of educating students
with disabilities, for the purpose of managing an excellent special education program. Incorporates policies and procedures in accordance with laws and regulations
* Ensures that all practices in the district are legal and ethical for each student/family so that each child has the opportunity to achieve at a high level and be prepared
for post-secondary success
* Other duties as assigned by the Principal, Director of Student Services, and/or the Superintendent
