SUMMARY:
Leads and manages community recreation programs, including instructional, enrichment, social, cultural arts, wellness, and special interest activities. Supervises children in After School/Summer Camp settings and oversees facility rentals, community events, and park activities as needed. Assists in scheduling daily work activities for optimal efficiency and productivity. Operates under limited supervision with significant independent judgement.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Organizes and leads activities for children, ensuring proper behavior and conflict resolution during programs, which may include but are not limited to AfterSchool programs, Summer Programs and Camps, field trips, special events, as well as any other programming scheduled. Ensure participant safety and enforce rules and regulations for participants and facilities. Provides excellent customer service, greet facility users and program participants, answers phones, and responds to questions and supports front desk operations. Handles related paperwork, including attendance records and files, supply requisitions and reporting. Monitors volunteers, program instructors, patrons, and facility users to ensure a high level of customer service and safety for all persons within the assigned park/facility and designated program. Prepares facilities and equipment for public and participant use, overseeing setup, breakdown, daily light custodial responsibilities. Conducts inspections and safety checks to ensure facilities and equipment are in good working condition, well-maintained and safe; reports any safety and maintenance concerns to the supervisor.
Assists with the development, implementation and evaluation of park programs, activities and events to ensure all goals and objectives are achieved. Assists in ensuring compliance with state childcare regulations and grant requirements. Prepares and maintains a variety of reports, records, and related documents. Assists in obtaining quotes for the purchase of supplies, materials, equipment, and goods and services. Assists with the development and distribution of monthly activities calendar and research new program opportunities. Assists in creating documents, flyers, and informational materials for programs and events. Renders CPR/First Aid, according to level of training, in the case of an emergency or injury and reports all accidents/incidents to the supervisor, including completing accident/incident reports as required by policy. Assists with department wide programs, activities, and events. Staffing special events as scheduled. Attends work on continuous and regular basis. Performs other related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Ability to lead a variety of recreational activities suitable for children and adults. Competence in managing groups of children and maintaining discipline. Some knowledge of recreational program activities such as sports, arts and crafts, educational activities, music, or drama required. Familiarity with rules, regulations, and safety precautions related to recreational and youth activities. Ability to monitor and instruct individuals of all ages and abilities, including those with disabilities. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to remain calm in emergencies. DFWP/EOE/ADA Effective communication skills, both oral and written, with patrons/participants of varying ages and abilities. Ability to maintain records, prepare reports, and follow written and oral instructions. Strong interpersonal skills for working with supervisors, co-workers, other County employees and the general public. Ability to contribute to team goals and adhere to program standards. Ability to pass a Level 2 Criminal Background Screening and Department of Children and Family Services background check upon hire. Knowledge of basic office equipment, computers and software applications. Flexibility to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Must possess a High School Diploma or an acceptable equivalency diploma and two (2) years of experience in leading activities and programs for children or adults, supervising children, monitoring parks and recreation facilities, or related experience in the parks and recreation field required. Additional qualifying education and/or experience which provide the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted one for the other on a year for year basis. The County may consider a combination of education and experience to meet qualification requirements. Experience in childcare, recreation, or summer camp/afterschool programs preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Must possess a Florida Driver’s License. First Aid, CPR, and AED Certifications required within the first 6 months of hire and maintain same license and certifications as a condition of continued employment. Must be able to complete forty (40) hours of required training and testing through the Department of Children and Families within the first year of hire. Must be able to complete ten (10) hours of required training for every subsequent year.
