Position Summary
Martin Marietta is seeking a motivated and detailed-oriented Grade Checker/Assistant Surveyor to join our team. In this position, you will be responsible with ensuring that project elevations, grades and slopes are correct, buried services are mapped, and marked, the project meets plan specifications, keeping and maintaining detailed records of information on multiple projects, and notifying proper personnel of operational and project issues which need to be addressed.
Grade checkers should have a good understanding of construction especially in dealing with the asphalt industry or desires to learn more about the asphalt industry.
Overall, the role of the Grade Checker is to make certain that they start and complete a project in a timely manner, providing the necessary information to the dirt prep and grading crews to facilitate their efficient operation.
Responsibilities
- Map/Mark buried service utilities for job sites.
- Create and export project utility maps.
- Provide technical support for blade operators and project managers.
- Coordinate with the estimators to acquire project design and models.
- Must be safety-oriented and practice safe work habits
- Basic math skills. Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division, Fractions, and Percentages with or without a calculator.
- Knowledge of Trimble GNSS Surveying and Data Collection systems is desirable.
- Self-motivated and eager to learn new skills
- Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency
- Willing to work hours that are associated to the asphalt industry, including overtime, nights and weekends as needed
- Pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen and onboarding process
- 3-5 years asphalt industry experience preferred
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and tolerate being exposed to loud noise
- Ability to lift 75 pounds
- Must be able to perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials
- Ability to walk Six miles per day while carrying surveying equipment and marking supplies.
