Martz Bus, a leader in motor coach transportation, is currently accepting applications for the position of Accounting Specialist in our Wilkes-Barre, PA location. Martz is family owned and operated and has been in the motor coach industry for over a century.
We are seeking energetic, positive, and self-motivated applicants. The Accounting Specialist is primarily responsible for daily accounting duties. Duties include data entry, account reconciling, spreadsheet creation and review, and payroll processing. This position is also responsible for routine accounting audits, reconciling general ledger accounts, and payments.
ESSENTIAL POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Accurately entering/converting time into the weekly payroll system for multiple companies
- Prepares vouchers, checks, reports and other records, and reviews for accuracy
- Organize and analyze data for all Martz companies
- Audits invoices against purchase orders, returns to purchaser to correct discrepancies
- Investigates problems that vendors or purchasing agents have with obtaining payment for bills
- Verifies and posts details of business transactions, such as funds received and disbursed; totals accounts to ledgers or computer spreadsheets and databases
- Audits invoices against purchase orders, returns to purchaser to correct discrepancies
- Prepares invoices, account statements, reports, and other records, and reviews for accuracy
- Prepares vouchers, checks, reports and other records, and reviews for accuracy
- Reconciles general ledger accounts with various registers
- Codes payables data for input to accounting system according to company procedures
- Responsible for holding payroll company accountable for accurate reporting purposes
- Preforms monthly and quarterly state sales tax and federal IFTA tax returns
- Calculates and transmits weekly union 401k
- Completes bank reconciliation weekly and monthly
- Computes and records charges, refunds, cost of lost or damaged goods, freight charges, rentals, and similar items
The right candidate will have advanced Excel skills. The candidate must be able to meet strict deadlines, work with confidential information, and have excellent communication skills. Great Plains experience helpful but not required
We require Bachelor's (BA) degree in accounting or finance or related business degree and two years of accounting experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and five years of experience in an accounting position working with items listed above.
