Job Title: Vice President of Emergency Services – Austin, Texas
Salary Range: $175,656 - $210,000 (based on experience)
Incentive Plan: 15% target incentive
Relocation Assistance:
- Homeowner: $15K lump sum (non-taxable) up to $10K for household goods moving expenses
- Renter: $10K lump sum (non-taxable) up to $5K for household goods moving expenses
Position Overview:
The Vice President of Emergency Services is a key leadership role responsible for driving strategic planning, business development, and the continuous improvement of the Emergency Services line, including Emergency Departments (ED) and Free-Standing Emergency Departments (FSEDs). This role focuses on enhancing service quality, achieving excellent patient outcomes, fostering a collaborative culture, and aligning efforts with organizational goals. The Vice President will engage with stakeholders across the organization to promote high standards of care, patient safety, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
Quality and Patient Care Excellence:
- Lead the development and implementation of evidence-based practices, safety initiatives, and quality strategies to ensure the highest standards of clinical care.
- Drive efforts to standardize clinical practices, reduce variation, and improve overall efficiency and effectiveness within the Emergency Services line.
- Foster a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement in patient care delivery.
- Ensure compliance with internal and external quality benchmarks, accreditations, and regulatory standards, and implement strategies to differentiate the organization as a leader in patient care and safety.
Leadership and Team Development:
- Cultivate a culture that aligns with the organization’s mission, vision, and values, ensuring a high level of employee engagement and satisfaction.
- Identify talent development opportunities, provide coaching and feedback, and create training programs to improve individual and team performance.
- Lead efforts to attract, retain, and develop top talent within the Emergency Services line, ensuring the right people are in place to meet business needs.
Operational and Financial Leadership:
- Collaborate with leadership and clinical staff to drive cost-effective resource management, improve clinical effectiveness, and reduce operational costs.
- Oversee budgeting, financial planning, and performance tracking for Emergency Services, identifying areas for improvement and ensuring financial targets are met.
- Lead the development and execution of capital and operational plans, including volume forecasting, throughput strategies, and patient flow coordination.
- Ensure efficient labor management, including scheduling, staffing, and premium pay oversight.
Strategic Planning and Business Development:
- Identify and pursue opportunities to grow the Emergency Services line, including expanding service offerings and enhancing existing programs.
- Develop and implement strategies to enhance the organization's competitive position in the healthcare market, including fostering relationships with external partners and referral networks.
- Maintain a deep understanding of the healthcare landscape, including regulatory changes, reimbursement trends, and industry advancements, ensuring the Emergency Services line is well-positioned for future success.
Regulatory and Compliance:
- Ensure the organization’s Emergency Services comply with all legal, regulatory, and accreditation standards, including Joint Commission compliance.
- Work closely with trauma centers and other clinical teams to maintain and enhance trauma designations (Level 1 & 2) and other key certifications.
Key Qualifications:
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree (required)
- Master’s degree or other approved advanced education (required)
- BSN (required)
- Experience:
- Minimum 5-7 years of experience as a Director or in a senior leadership role in a large acute care hospital setting, specifically with Emergency Departments and trauma care (Level 1 & 2).
- Proven track record of improving patient experience, meeting key metrics, and driving operational efficiencies.
- Strong experience in both strategic planning and operational leadership within a healthcare setting.
- Licenses and Certifications:
- Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state(s) of practice, or holds an active compact license (required).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required).
- Additional Requirements:
- Experience with trauma center operations, Joint Commission compliance, and familiarity with FSED development is strongly preferred.
- This role is not open to interim candidates.
Additional Information:
- Scope of Role: The Vice President will oversee Emergency Services at 9 hospitals and 8 FSEDs, reporting directly to the Division Chief Nurse Executive.
- Key Interfaces: This position will engage closely with hospital leadership teams, physicians, and Team Health staff, focusing on clinical excellence and operational performance.
- Strategic Focus: The role blends strategic planning and business development with a focus on quality care, operational efficiency, and growth of the Emergency Services line.
