Statement of Purpose: The Cost Accountant position will input, analyze and calculate manufacturing costs, inventory and expenses to provide accurate financial information to management contributing to informed decision-making and effective financial management within the company. They will play a key role in budgeting, pricing decisions, and financial planning, contributing to sound financial strategies and sustainable growth in a competitive market.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Input accurate data from production sheets and calculate daily product yields developing a process to communicate timely yield performance and profitability of production run to production foreman and managers, to allow for quick investigation of inconsistencies and turnaround from production issues.
  • Develop a digital tool to share a daily scorecard for each line/ piece of equipment on each step of product yield information, mapping and yielding each product from raw through finished product, to allow production foreman and manager the ability to make timely decisions for each run.
  • Convert current paperbound yield packet maintenance to a digital format that allows for quicker decision making.
  • Analyze business activity costs, such as raw materials, manufacturing overhead, inventory, labor and raw production data to look for trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities to help the organization cut costs and improve performance. Collaborate with the production management team to recommend changes to the company’s processes to reduce costs and maximize profit.
  • Identify and investigate discrepancies between actual costs and standard costs, explaining causes and recommending corrective actions.
  • Verify accuracy of new labels, submit label to USDA for approval and follow-up with the USDA until approval is attained from USDA. Label Approvals and Organization

COMPETENCIES AND KNOWLEDGE
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of excel, word and other databases with the ability to analyze data related to production efficiencies. Experience with cost accounting software and ERP systems (e.g. Oracle) is preferred
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills, with close attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
  • Understanding of cost accounting methodologies, including yielding and profitability concepts.
  • Highly organized and flexible
  • Ability to multitask and meet changing deadlines
  • Must be self-directed and able to complete projects with limited supervision
  • Ability to manage confidential information
  • Working knowledge of email, scheduling, spreadsheets and other office administration software
  • Punctual and reliable
  • Collaborates effectively with other internal resources, as well as external resources
  • Spanish bi-lingual skill preferred


Qualifications and Education Requirements:

The Qualified Candidate will have at least a four-year degree in accounting or related field, or a two year accounting degree with 1-3 years of cost accounting experience in manufacturing or production environments preferred. The Candidate will demonstrate a strong ability to follow directions and to grow professionally throughout their employment.

Minimum Qualifications:

The Candidate must be motivated and be able to follow directions and complete tasks effectively. Thus, they must have initiative, attention to detail, organization and dependability. This person must be able to handle stressful situations in a busy office environment. Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 20 pounds and regularly walk and stand and sit at a desk and work on a computer for extended periods of time. This position requires the employee to work closely with managers, supervisors, production staff, and outside organizational contacts, so teamwork and effective communication skills are very important. Must be able to effectively communicate orally, in person and over the telephone, and in writing. The employee must be able to, with or without accommodation, work in all facilities within the requirements of this job description.
