Description
We are seeking a passionate, outgoing, responsible, and experienced professional to work with families experiencing homelessness. The Education Access Coordinator works directly with families to coordinate support around their children's educational needs. The Education Access Coordinator is responsible for connecting with families immediately upon shelter entry to assess the educational needs of all children and youth. They ensure that youth are connected to school, transportation, and other McKinney-Vento supports as quickly as possible to minimize the number of days that children miss school.
The Education Access Coordinator actively engages in Mary's Place racial equity work-striving for equitable outcomes and taking responsibility for creating, maintaining, and affirming communities for people of color, immigrants and refugees, trans and gender-non-conforming people, and other populations who routinely encounter systemic oppression. The Education Access Coordinator reports to the Youth Services Director. This is a full-time, non-exempt position that works across Mary's Place sites. Standard work hours are 9 : 00am-5 : 30pm, with the flexibility to work some evenings to meet the demands of the job. The starting hourly pay rate is $28.00 DOE.
Key Responsibilities
- Connect with all guests with school-aged children to assess educational needs of families upon shelter entry
- Assist families with school enrollment and establishing school transportation
- Promptly enter and update data in Mary's Place internal database (Agency) to accurately track students' school information
- Act as the primary liaison for local schools and McKinney-Vento representatives
- Maintain a thorough understanding of the McKinney-Vento law in order to advocate for students and families at school and school district levels
- Collaborate with other staff and teams within the organization to best support families' needs
- Assist with planning, developing, implementing and evaluating programs, services, and activities
- Model mature work behaviors to ensure a productive work environment
- Ensure confidentiality of guest data, school data, and other member information
- Provide crisis management and set appropriate limits as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned
