ORGANIZATION OBJECTIVE  

Every student can achieve academic success, yet the public education system was not designed to meet students of color where they dream — > instead they marginalize them and underestimate their abilities. TAF partners with school districts, educators, and organizations to challenge the current public education system. We address the entire public education system, from top-to-bottom, providing STEM skills and equitable, anti-racist education environments where all students can succeed and by working with emerging and established educators and education leaders of color to improve representation at every level.  

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION 

The Education EnCounter Program Manager reports directly to the Director of the Network for EdWork (NWEW).

The Education EnCounter Program Manager will oversee the Education EnCounter Program and work closely with the Director and NWEW program managers to develop programming and facilitate learning opportunities for BIPOC school and district leaders looking to transform their school environments to be relevant and responsive to BIPOC teachers and leaders through liberatory practices. The program manager will also help maintain district and organizational partnerships for the Network for EdWork. 

 

We are looking for an energetic, collaborative, and enthusiastic individual, who has a passion for racial equity, education, and social justice. The ideal candidate for this position is team oriented, can develop strong supportive relationships, and provide guidance to our growing network of school and district leaders around liberatory practices in education. They also understand the ways systemic racism engulfs systems (e.g., the education system) and can facilitate effective conversations about race and equity.  It is also important that the person in this role have a strong routine for self-care and self-advocacy as the work of racial justice does take an emotional toll.  


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES  

 Professional Development 

  • Develop curriculum that centers anti-racist, decolonial, and Indigenous pedagogy for NWEW’s professional development workshop series for BIPOC educators and leaders in education 
  • Facilitate and lead the professional development workshop series as well as racial affinity salons for BIPOC educators and leaders in education 
  • Use of qualitative and quantitative data to evaluate effectiveness and impact of programming  

Operations 

  • Network Education EnCounter programming to education partners and maintain existing partnerships  
  • Develop, organize, and maintain documentation/database for participants and district partners 
  • Support the program evaluation process with TAF’s data analyst to evaluate impact and effectiveness of programming (e.g., data collection, analysis, and reporting) 
  • Complete required program paperwork (e.g., quarterly, mid-year and annual project reports)  
  • Management of project elements, including, but not limited to, schedule, cost, resources, and risks: 
  • Program manual  
  • Curriculum 
  • Risks and issues 
  • Cost benefit analysis  
  • Organizational Value  
  • Complete and update annual work plan dashboard 

Collaboration 

  • Work with NWEW team to maintain school, district, and university partnerships (e.g., ongoing communication, information fairs, supporting MOUs process, and sharing updated policies) 
  • Collaborate with the NWEW team to plan and organize annual conference, The Convening 
  • Work with marketing & communications team to create content for events/program, the NWEW’s newsletter and general marketing materials  
  • Collaborate and support other TAF education teams as needed   

Travel 

  • This is a hybrid position. The Program Manager will be working in-person at our main office in West Seattle at least 2 days a week.
  • As we expand our relationships eastward in the state, communication with district and school leaders will be expected.  
  • Travel to Eastern Washington or Central Washington will be required (about 4 days per quarter)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS  

  • Effective communication skills for naming and calling out systemic oppression  
  • Experience facilitating BIPOC educators and/or leaders in confronting and addressing racism and inequity 
  • Demonstrated ability to difficult and courageous conversations 
  • Experience facilitating effective conversations about race and equity with adults. 
  • Demonstrated use of project management skills and ability to take full ownership of programs and projects, including program strategy and work plans 
  • Experience related to adult learning (e.g., professional development, mentoring, teaching) 
  • Possess organization and time management systems for self and stakeholders 
  • Experience with curriculum development and a variety of effective instructional strategies  
  • Knowledge of school and district organization and policy 
  • Familiarity working in diverse, multi-cultural and bilingual environments 
  • Possess strong Interpersonal skills; having the ability to build positive relationships 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and ability to present to diverse audiences, specifically racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse communities 
  • Proven research skills 
  • Facilitate collaboration of team members and internal and external colleagues  
  • Ability to respond to new challenges and make programmatic adaptations 
  • Ability to work independently and be flexible, responsive, and willing to take strategic risks. 
  • Exceptional attention to detail 
  • Ability to recognize the importance of linking organizational change to the primary values, abilities, and dreams of the stakeholders involved. 
  • Demonstrated ability to use data tools, analyze data and generate reports to use it to modify practices and programming 
  • The ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously   

Education, Experience, and Competencies  

  • Bachelor’s degree, certification or at least 2 years' experience as a program manager 
  • Minimum 3-5 years teaching experience 
  • Classroom experience and/or relevant experience in the field of education 
  • Workshop facilitation  
  • Budget management  
  • Familiarity working in diverse and multi-cultural and bilingual environments in underserved schools and communities. 

Preferred Skills 

  • Fluency in languages other than English is a plus 
  • Moderate to high proficiency in Microsoft Suite/O365
