Description
We are seeking a responsible and energetic individual with a stellar driving record to pick up and deliver food, donations and supplies. The van driver reports directly to the Food Sourcing Manager and works within a team to safely and efficiently deliver items to our shelters.
This is a part-time, on-call (as needed) position. The schedule includes mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends and some holidays. Typical shifts include mornings, afternoons, and evenings between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. Occasionally, Friday evening shifts may extend until 9:00p.m. Hourly wage starts at $25/hour DOE.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate cargo vehicles on freeways, residential roads, and congested inner city traffic
- Occasionally, the operation of a refrigerated box truck may be necessary
- Pick up donations from donors and donation collection sites
- Maintain established Mary’s Place standards for safely loading the truck, managing separation of loads and completing donation paperwork
- Deliver food and dry goods to shelters
- Maintain established Mary’s Place standards for delivering meals and completing food delivery paperwork
- Work closely with Mary’s Place Central Kitchen to ensure food is handled properly
- Support central kitchen staff as needed in the sorting and storage of food
- Deliver food, dry goods, and meals to shelters and partners
- Log and report any issues/incidents with vehicle(s)
- Perform basic maintenance and fueling as required
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
Skills/Qualifications Required
- A valid Washington State driver’s license; satisfactory driving record
- Proof of personal vehicle insurance
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Experience driving box trucks up to 26’ in length, high roof cargo vans, passenger vans, and refrigerated box trucks
- Able to repeatedly lift 50lbs through course of day
- Must be proficient in English (speak, read and write)
- Ability to remain calm in emergency and/or high-stress situations
- Excellent follow through on assigned tasks
- Understanding of the effects of systemic racism and its intersections with poverty and homelessness
- Demonstrated ability to exude compassion, understanding, and empathy while working with diverse staff, guests, and community partners in a multi-racial and multi-cultural environment
- Adhere to staff guidelines as outlined in the Employee Handbook
- Willingness to take a TB test within 30 days of hire

• Sick Time in accordance with Seattle Paid Sick and Safe Time Ordinance. Sick Time accrues at 0.03846 hour for each hour in timesheet (equal to 40 hours/year when 20 hours/week in timesheet)
• Paid Time Off (PTO) accrues at 0.03846 hour for each hour in timesheet during first year of employment, with increasing accruals for each year worked up to 0.05769 hour for 5 years of employment
• 403(b) plan with a 50% employer match on the first 6% employee contribution. Eligible to participate upon hire; eligible for the match after 1 year of employment and 1,000 Hours of Service.
