What You'll Do:
- Provide a visible presence throughout the galleries and grounds
- Engage with guests in a courteous and helpful manner
- Help safeguard the art and museum property
- Assist with daily opening and closing routines
- Monitor building and grounds, and respond to visitor needs
What We’re Looking For:
- Excellent verbal communication skills—friendly and authoritative
- Integrity, professionalism, and dependability
- Willingness to walk or stand for extended periods (up to 7 hours/day)
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs regularly (up to 75 lbs occasionally)
- Valid driver’s license and ability to pass a background check
- First Aid training (or willingness to complete)

Full Job Description:
Position Description: Gallery Attendant
Scope: The primary responsibility of the Gallery Attendant at the Maryhill Museum of Art is to provide constant surveillance within the museum galleries to protect the art, the visitors, the building, and the staff, while ensuring a positive visitor experience.
Reporting Relationship: The Gallery Attendants report to the Operations and Project Manager
Key Partners: The Gallery Attendants work closely with Visitor Services and Staff to ensure the safety of people, buildings, art, and assets.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Opening gates, turning on exhibit lighting, putting out movable signage, turning on video displays, etc. in preparation for the museum to open for the day.
- Circulate through the galleries and grounds to maintain an obvious and visible presence to the museum visitors.
- In carrying out this duty, the Gallery Attendant will at all times be courteous, helpful, and hospitable to all museum visitors.
- Represent the museum with a high level of integrity and professionalism.
- Support a focused visitor-centered approach to all aspects of museum operations.
- Works closely with Visitor Services and Staff to ensure the safety of people, the building, art, and assets.
- Walks buildings and grounds and monitors material conditions; locks and unlocks gates and doors as required.
- Occasionally assists with patron mobility if required.
- Clearing museum of visitors at the end of the day, turning off exhibit lighting, locking gates and doors, etc. in preparation for the museum to close for the day.
SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- May be asked to assist, when appropriate, the promotion or advertisement of events, activities, or programs at the museum.
- Other duties as assigned.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPECTED KNOWLEDGE
- Excellent verbal communication skills are required; the Gallery Attendant must have the ability to be both friendly and authoritative.
- Demonstration of a high level of confidentiality, diplomacy and integrity.
- Must be dependable and report on days assigned at the proper time.
- Must have first aid training or be willing to take first aid training.
- Knowledge of building mechanical systems a plus.
- Attention to detail.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Driver’s License.
- Satisfactory background check required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Ability to walk for up to seven hours daily.
- Work is performed primarily indoors; a portion is performed outdoors with exposure to various weather conditions.
- The employee is frequently required to walk extended distances; use hands and fingers to handle or operate computers, objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. May require occasional climbing, bending, twisting, crawling, stooping, working from ladders, and standing for long periods of time. The employee must lift, and/or move up to 50 pounds regularly and occasionally move or lift up to 75 pounds.

SCHEDULE
- Three days per week, 9:30am-5:15pm, March 15th to November 15th.
- Ability to work hours beyond typical business working hours to complete tasks.
- Potential to be on-call evenings and weekends as needed.
