What are the responsibilities and job description for the Groundskeeper Working Supervisor position at Maryknoll Sisters?
This position reports directly to the Physical Plant Manager.
The Groundskeeping, Working Supervisor performs landscaped gardening and woodlands work as well as building maintenance and other services and repairs, required to maintain the Maryknoll Sisters Center grounds and buildings as an attractive and safe complex. This position will oversee the contractors hired to perform the various additional grounds services, i.e. lawn maintenance, tree care etc., thus ensuring completion to expectations their assigned work. This position assists the Physical Plant Manager in identifying Facility grounds needs through personal or contractor recommendations and/or direct requests made from Sister Gardeners.
Work closely with the Physical Plant Manager in developing the annual budgets in relation to the Facility Grounds.
Develop and maintain Facility grounds Master Plan.
The majority of the work is outdoors year round, 70% of the time performing Groundskeeper duties and 30% Maintenance Mechanic duties.
The Groundskeeping, Working Supervisor is an Essential position which requires those in this position to be at work during inclement weather and for other emergency situations as requested by the Manager or Supervisor.
1. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
(a) Possess knowledge of plant and tree care.
(b) Ability to accept/identify, schedule and perform jobs within the landscaped and woodland areas which include garden beds. Tasks such as weeding, mulching, pruning of shrubs, control of invasive plant species and building maintenance and repair tasks with a high degree of proficiency.
(c) Ability to work as a team member with Sister Gardeners and co-workers.
(d) Ability to interact with Contractors, verify and communicate to the Physical Plant Manager expectations are being satisfied.
(e) Ability to relate courteously and professionally with the variety of residents and staff who make up the Sisters’ Center.
(f) Ability to tolerate heat, cold, noises and odors.
(g) Ability to lift heavy objects (minimum 50 lbs.)
(h) Must possess a Valid New York Drivers License.
(i) Able to learn how to operate and effectively use all applicable power tools/equipment needed in performing work activities.
(j) Willingness to further one’s education in a particular skill or trade.
(k) Basic computer knowledge to include Word and Excel.
2. EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Incumbent must have prior experience in groundskeeping and one or more of required trades. Previous Supervisory experience a plus.
3. MINIMUM FORMAL EDUCATION REQUIRED
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Training in one or more trade is desirable.
