POSITION SUMMARY 11pm to 7am
The Home Health Care Aide performs a proportionate share, as assigned, of resident care and other non-professional services required by residents in Integrative Care.
A proportionate amount of time is spent on functions which vary with the specific shift, the staffing of the shift, and assignments by the Nurse Supervisor.
This position works with the residents to educate them for, and reinforce, appropriate self-care.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, LISTED IN PRIORITY
1. Assists residents, as assigned, to carry out their established individual health Care Plans
in ways such as the following, but not limited to the following:
a) Bathing, hair care, skin care, oral hygiene;
b) Taking and recording temperature;
c) Giving whirlpool baths;
d) Emptying bedpans and changing linens, as required;
e) Ambulation, prescribed exercise procedures, use of cane, walker, wheel chair.
f) Monitoring, observing and assessing resident responses;
g) Reporting resident status and needs to the Nurse Supervisor.
2. Assists, as assigned, in maintaining cleanliness and order in the Integrative Care area,
in both common rooms and resident rooms, in ways such as the following, but not limited
to the following:
a) Cleaning as directed on charge list;
b) Maintaining supplies in specific areas, as directed;
c) Taking soiled clothes to the laundry, and returning clean laundry; laundering
some personal items for residents.
3. Assists with providing residents' meals, such as:
a) Escorting residents to dining room on the floor; serve and assist with feeding as necessary;
b) Cleaning the dining area;
c) Assisting with individualizing and supervising nutritional intake as required;
d) Educating for, and reinforcing good nutrition and eating procedures and habits.
REQUIREMENTS TO CARRY OUT ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
(including aptitudes, temperament, interests and physical stamina)
(a) Ability to provide efficient and proper health care in an appropriate home-care fashion, reinforcing self-care.
(b) Ability to understand, be patient with, and encourage sick, elderly and/or disabled residents.
(c) Energy, and stamina to walk and stand most of the time, and to provide physical assistance (including lifting) for residents.
(d) Flexibility to accept schedule and work assignment changes.
2. EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Previous work providing home health care assistance.
3. MINIMUM FORMAL EDUCATION REQUIRED
High School Graduate or equivalent.
