The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) invites you to apply today to be considered for a position that provides customer service to the citizens of Maryland every day. The MTA is one of the largest transit systems in the United States and is seeking dynamic and energetic individuals to join its team.

The Assistant Superintendent Systems Maintenance – MOW Metro will assist in the administration of the preventive maintenance, repair, modification, and inspection of rail transit stations and building facilities, plans and coordinates shop activities including staffing and scheduling: and provides responsible support to the

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Plan and coordinate field and shop activities including staffing, parts availability, and scheduling; monitor and evaluate field and shop operations building maintenance.

  • Direct or supervise long-term projects as needed.

  • Participate in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for assigned programs; recommend and administer policies and procedures.

  • Participate in the development and administration of the annual budget; forecast funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; monitor and approve expenditures; implement adjustments.

  • Assist in the selection, motivation, and evaluation of assigned personnel; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline and termination procedures.

  • Coordinate with outside vendors and contractors to build, repair, and replace equipment, goods, and services.

  • Serve as the Facilities Maintenance liaison with other divisions, departments, and outside agencies; negotiate and resolve sensitive and controversial issues.

  • Participate in the resolution of various labor relations issues and employer grievances.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable MTA, EPA, and OSHA rules and regulations.

  • Attend and participate in professional group meetings; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of rail transit stations and facilities maintenance.

Education:  Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience:  Five years of experience in the operation and/or maintenance of a mass transit system and/or related operations that required the resolution of operational problems related to scheduled service, equipment failure, equipment maintenance, inclement weather, or other service disruptions. One year of the required experience must have involved supervisory or program management responsibilities.

Notes:

1.  Additional experience as defined above may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2.  Additional education at an accredited college or university may be substituted at a rate of thirty credit hours for each year of the required experience for up to four years of the required non-supervisory experience.

3.  U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as defined under the Experience Requirement of the Minimum Qualifications may be substituted for the required education and experience on a year-for-year basis.
1.  Employees in this classification are assigned duties that require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
