The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) owns, operates, and maintains eight major toll facilities comprised of four bridges, two tunnels, and two turnpikes across the State of Maryland. Nature of Work : The Records Specialist is responsible for ensuring the quality and accuracy of crime data collected through the National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS) for the agency. This position is located in the MDTA Police Logistics Division and is responsible for reviewing, analyzing, and ensuring correct criminal and non-criminal incident reports to meet NIBRS standards. It requires stellar attention to detail and analytical skills by maintaining a consistent error rate under 4%, facilitating the transition from Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) to NIBRS, and improving analytic flexibility by capturing detailed offense categories, victim / offender relationships, and circumstances surrounding incidents. The duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following;

Conducting weekly reviews and corrections of approximately 100 incident reports, including administrative updates such as report type, clearance status, and offender information;

Processing expungements of reports and citations based on court-ordered expungements;

Reviewing NIBRS warnings and errors in the Caliber Records Management System and making necessary corrections for resubmission to the Maryland State Police and FBI;

Assisting officers with corrections such as NIBRS coding, additional report types, and necessary attachments;

Advising officers on non-administrative corrections to ensure proper report completion;

Providing training and support to other staff on report handling, mail processing, and supply orders;

Analyzing crime trends, preparing statistical reports, and formulating recommendations to guide program objectives and improve operations;

Organizing and coordinating staff coverage and daily operations within the unit; and

Ensuring the accuracy of statistical data for officers and detachments.

Employees in this classification receive direct supervision from the Assistant Director of Records and MDTA Police Logistics Captain. The current vacancy exists in Baltimore, MD.

Qualifications

Education : Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience : Two years of experience in administrative staff or professional work.

  • One year of experience must include reviewing, analyzing, and correcting public safety and / or emergency services records in a report management system.

    Candidates may substitute U.S Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work that included regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative plans, policies, rules, or regulations or analysis of operational programs or procedures with recommendations for improvement on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
