The Maryland Council on Economic Education (MCEE) focuses on enhancing economic and personal finance education in Maryland K-12 schools. As a key member of MCEE’s leadership team, the Director of Programs is responsible for overseeing the design, implementation, delivery, evaluation and assessment of economic and personal finance programming. This includes professional development programs for K-12 educators, our library of classroom resources, and our student engagement programs. The Director of Programs reports to the Executive Director and will be responsible for the planning and success of all MCEE programs.

MCEE focuses on providing professional development courses and workshops for K-12 teachers focused on effective teaching of the Maryland educational content standards. In addition, MCEE offers hands-on, transformative programs for students to enable them to learn personal finance and economics concepts. These include the Stock Market Game, InvestWrite, the Economics Challenge, the Personal Finance Challenge, Invest in Girls, an annual poster contest and more.
The Primary Responsibilities Of The Director Are To
Targeted Hiring Range is $65,000- $72,000 annually and our partnership with Towson University offers annual leave, holidays, sick days and tuition remission. Employees scheduled to work 30 or more hours per week may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage through the University System of Maryland.

The Primary Responsibilities Of The Director Are To
- Cultivate relationships with Local School System (LSS) content area supervisors, educational partners and other educational stakeholders to determine needs and identify opportunities to include economic and personal finance education and programs into content areas. This includes Social Studies, Math, Gifted and Talented, Career and Technical Education (CTE), Family and Consumer Science (FACS) as well as specialized curriculum such as AVID, Military Science, ESOL and others.
- Manage the MCEE professional development calendar of events to provide robust opportunities to engage teachers. Assign and select staff/presenters to conduct workshops and courses on behalf of MCEE. Be capable of effectively delivering workshops and courses when needed. Make sure that commitments to donors are delivered.
- Manage the Customer Relational Database (CRM) and LSS Notes System to ensure accurate recordkeeping. Analyze and evaluate program data to determine program reach, impact, and areas of improvement. Manage the annual preparation of impact reports for each LSS, Maryland State Department of Education and for the MCEE Board of Trustees.
- Build a teacher network of K-12 teachers with an interest or experience in teaching economic and personal finance content. Lead the Teacher Advisory Board meetings to gather input on program development and innovative ways to meet educational needs.
- Establish partnerships with community and educational organizations with a common interest in economic and financial education to look for collaborations that could increase the impact of the Council’s work.
- Represent MCEE at conferences and community events to build awareness, followers, and market MCEE programs.
- Bachelor’s degree
- Five or more years of relevant work experience (project management or education experience preferred)
- Strong commitment to the mission of the Maryland Council on Economic Education
- Ability to thrive in a flexible, fast-paced, and growth-oriented environment while maintaining a positive, solution-oriented approach
- Ability to work both independently and in a team setting
- Excellent skills in managing varied relationships and facilitating collaboration
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Regular travel throughout Maryland expected and some limited travel to national conferences and meetings
- Occasional weekend and evening work required
- Experience must demonstrate the confidence to lead conversations, lead teams, and interface with a variety of people and positions
- Background in financial education or K-12 education a plus.
