Maryland State Department of Education’s (MSDE) Community Engagement Coordinator will serve as an ambassador for MSDE and will engage community members in a dialogue, build partnerships with key nonprofits and education stakeholders, manage MSDE advisory councils and school/educator recognition programs, organize school visits, host town hall meetings, workshops and more. The incumbent will ensure that the Department sustains strong partnerships and communicates effectively, delivering the highest level of customer service. The Engagement Coordinator will also create quality content to support and disseminate the message of MSDE and its many initiatives.

Responsibilities Include

  • Manage and support the implementation of major state and national education recognition programs, including the Maryland Teacher of the Year Program and the Maryland Blue Ribbon Schools Program.
  • Garner resources and support for these programs.
  • Provide guidance and technical assistance to local education agencies (LEAs) on developing and implementing their own educator recognition programs.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between MSDE and key stakeholders, including community members, non-profit organizations, education leaders, and LEAs.
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with diverse community groups and organizations.
  • Organize and facilitate community engagement events, including town hall meetings, workshops, and school visits.
  • Manage MSDE advisory councils, ensuring effective participation and collaboration.
  • Provide direction and leadership to LEAs on developing effective partnerships within their communities.

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Six years of administrative staff or professional work.

Notes

  • Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year up to four years of the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and two years of experience in administrative staff or professional work for the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master's degree from an accredited college or university for the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policy, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher ranking commissioned officer on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

  • One year of this experience must have involved one or more of the following: event planning, grassroots organizing, building partnerships and/or outreach strategies; or possess a Master’s Degree.

  • Strong long-term planning and project management skills, including establishing outcomes, determining evaluative measures, and tracking progress.
  • Experience providing quality customer service through written and verbal communication.
  • Working knowledge of school district systems and experience working with district-level administrators, preferably in finance, human resources, or curriculum and instruction.
  • Ability to tailor messaging and key points for a variety of audiences.
  • Experience creating and executing outreach strategies.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Suite programs and Google Suite applications.

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.Applicants must consent to a State Police Investigation (fingerprinting) as a routine procedure for all employees with this Agency.
