Job Summary: Under the guidance of the EEC Director,_ the Assistant Director will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day administrative tasks vital to operating the center_. The Assistant Director will assist the Director in ensuring the development and safety of the children and Associates in accordance with Maryvale policies and procedures and those of all governing agencies. The Assistant Director, assumes administrative responsibility over the center and will act in place of the Director in their absence.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Meet Title 22 regulations for a fully qualified teacher including: completion of the 9 core units, 3 units in infant/toddler preferred, 1 year teaching in a Preschool setting.
  • Complete 3 units of Administration within 1 year of position start date.
  • Child Development permit at the Associate teacher or higher level with a professional developmental plan in place to obtain a permit at the Site Supervisor level. Assistant Director may be provided 30 days to provide evidence of application. Permit must be secured within 6 months of hire date.
  • Preferred that the Assistant Director will have successfully completed one year of teaching within the Maryvale Early Education Center.
  • Strong planning, organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to form positive relationships with others.
  • An understanding of current issues and trends in ECE.
  • Basic knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize, organize and manage time effectively.
  • Ability to adapt to change, be flexible, team-oriented and posses a positive attitude.
  • Ability to deal with confidential information and act accordingly.

PROGRAM

  • Review curriculum to ensure that all objectives are in accordance with the philosophy, policies and procedures of Maryvale; work with Associates to accomplish said objectives.
  • Act as a support teachers in planning and implementing activities to meet the physical, emotional, intellectual and social needs of the children in the program through the creation of lesson plans that are developmentally appropriate and in line with the philosophy of the center.
  • Support teachers in the completion of Desired Results Development (DRDP) assessments.
  • Act as a model to other teachers while working together with them in the classroom environment.
  • Ensure equipment and the facility is clean, well-maintained and safe at all times.
  • Maintain sanitation schedule and ensure Associate compliance.
  • Act in the capacity of Center Administrator whenever the Director is unable to be present at the center.
  • Assist in the recruitment and enrollment process for children and families.
  • In collaboration with the VP of ECE and Director, plan Associate meetings, parent education events, family council, family night events and written communication with families.
  • Ensure that all children and Associates have accurate and complete files present at the facility.
  • Participate in the hiring process of new Associates
  • Assist in the recruitment, training and development of EEC Associates, and effectively communicate with the Director regarding Associates assigned to each program area.
  • Assist in the implementation and monitoring of the Desired Results Development (DRDP) assessment tool and system within the center.
  • Assist in completing the appropriate Environmental Rating Scale (ERS) tool for program area, and ensure that a minimum rating of 4 is obtained in each area.

GENERAL ADMINISTRATION

  • When acting in the capacity of Director the Assistant Director will maintain administrative responsibility for the day-to-day administration of the whole EEC, and report to the Director and VP of ECE.
  • Maintain compliance with the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).
  • Maintain compliance with Title 22 regulations, including requirements to report unusual incidents to Community Care Licensing and the VP of ECE.
  • Supervise, coach, and encourage Associates daily and provide regular feedback regarding their development.
  • Immediately take action when there is concern for the safety or well-being of children, families or Associates, regardless of program area, and report said concern as soon as it is safe to do so.
  • Maintain a professional growth plan that challenges the Assistant Director to continue their education within the field of ECE through college coursework, workshops or other appropriate trainings.
