This position reports directly to the Principal. Its main objective is to maintain cohesion and a spirit of unity throughout Mason Classical Academy by communicating effectively with teachers and the Principal.
The Academic Dean is responsible for the following action items:
- Provide classroom management guidance in accordance with classical and traditional education pedagogy.
- Provide answers and guidance to teachers about curriculum and instruction in accordance with classical and traditional education pedagogy.
- Ensure adherence to grade level or subject area curriculum maps and pacing plans.
- Conduct regular teacher observations and follow-up meetings.
- Provide communication assistance between teachers and parents.
- Analyze student data to make academic recommendations.
- Ensure assessments are grade level appropriate and timely.
- Ensure content is in alignment with End-of-Course Assessments.
- Encourage a spirit of camaraderie and positivity amongst faculty.
- Enforce MCA’s standards of decorum.
- Relate serious teacher concerns immediately to the principal.
- Be available for model lessons so teachers can observe best instructional practices.
- Monitor student population to ensure proper placement and remedial needs.
- Provide guidance to teachers for proper grading practices.
- Make recommendations to the principal about curriculum and resources.
- Maintain a solid understanding of state standards and state testing.
- Oversee team leads and department chairs, providing them with leadership opportunities and mentorship.
- Plan, conduct, and coordinate summer teacher training.
- Provide professional development for teachers throughout the school year.
- Make recommendations for the Master Teacher Schedule.
- Assist with teacher certification.
- Make recommendations for student retention and promotion.
- Promote a positive environment for students by facilitating regular school assemblies.
The Academic Dean is primarily responsible for maintaining high standards for curriculum and instruction, but must be willing to assist in any situation that the principal deems necessary.
