The Village School of Naples seeks a dynamic and innovative Academic Dean. The ideal candidate will be passionate about hands-on, inquiry-based learning and committed to fostering scientific curiosity in young learners. As a member of our faculty, you will play a vital role in shaping an engaging, student-centered learning environment that reflects our school's mission and values.
Summary
The Academic Dean is a 12-month, position reporting to the Head of School. The Academic Dean will work closely with the Head of School and the Division Heads to develop, assess, and continuously improve educational programs, policies, and experiences that align with the school’s mission. She or he will interpret data and evaluate performance to assist in developing academic programs that support students in K-12. Additionally, the Academic Dean will monitor student academic progress and provide guidance in students’ academic paths. She or he will work with teachers, students, and families to foster a learning environment based on principles of inquiry, experience, integrity, collaboration, equity, inclusion, and serving the whole student. The Academic Dean will work directly with the Division Heads, Assistant Division Heads, the Dean of Students, College Counselors, faculty, parents, and students. In conjunction with the faculty, the Academic Dean is responsible for monitoring student learning and supporting students who are academically struggling. The Academic Dean supervises and supports the academic demands of K-12 and will teach courses or hold another responsibility in the school.
The Academic Dean should have an energetic and hands-on approach to education. This position will contribute to the school’s ongoing discussions about interdisciplinary S.T.R.E.A.M. and project-based learning, creating opportunities for student research and experiential learning.
Among the highest priorities will be working with the Leadership Team to build a progressive educational program by further developing the curriculum and schedule along with the Assistant Head of School and Division Heads. The school is seeking a confident self-starter who is energized by the vision of enhancing an innovative educational K-12 program in Southwest Florida.
Requirements
The Academic Dean will possess the following attributes:
- Excellent academic credentials, including an advanced degree
- Middle or Upper School leadership experience is required
- A demonstrated record of success as a secondary school teacher and administrator, ideally in an independent school of high quality
- An open-minded academician with the knowledge and experience necessary to pioneer the process of designing and developing a curriculum
- A forward-thinking educator who will promote thoughtful curricular innovation
- A proven administrator with the ability to lead, manage people and move multiple projects forward
- The willingness and ability to be a visible, persuasive advocate for the School with internal and external audiences
