Description
The duty of the Seasonal Maintenance Worker is to assist the Facilities Maintenance II, III and IV classifications in their daily job functions. Classification will perform unskilled and semi-skilled labor related to the maintenance and operations of park areas, facilities and structures. Assignments are of a temporary and/or seasonal nature.
Essential Functions
(Any one position may not include all of the duties listed nor do the listed examples include all tasks which may be found in positions in the class.)Assist in the performance of routine maintenance including pick-up and proper disposal of litter, garbage, and debris in building facilities, parks and grounds areas. Clean and sanitize public restroom facilities and equipment as needed in accordance with the standards of cleanliness and safety. Assist in the cultivation, pruning, spraying and trimming of plants, trees, shrubs and the mowing of turf areas to include ballfields and the preparation of ballfield infields for daily ball playing. Operate push and riding mowers and other turf and/or maintenance equipment as necessary. Assist on capital improvement projects and perform related duties with supervision as required. Regular, reliable and punctual attendance. Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge of:
- Mason County Park system
- Mason County buildings and facilities
- Basic building maintenance
- Proper landscaping and grounds keeping procedures
- Recreation programs and associated maintenance requirements
- Ballfield configuration and requirements for different levels of play
Ability to:
- Work within established guidelines with limited supervision
- Accomplish tasks within a designated time frame
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other County employees and the general public
- Carry out oral and written instructions with minimal supervision
- Perform tasks involving physical strength and endurance to withstand exposure to variable weather conditions
- Perform repetitive heavy lifting to load or off-load trucks
- Use power and non-power tools safely
- Perform manual labor in variable weather conditions
Minimum Qualifications
Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job may be considered.
Must be 18 years of age or older
Valid WA State Driver license with a good driving record
Required to pass Washington State criminal background check
Required to pass a Mason County Sheriff’s Office background screening
Outdoor Heat Exposure Training
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed in County facilities and grounds in all types of weather and requires the employee to be able to walk, stand, climb, bend and reach on a regular basis. Employees in this classification are required to use standard hand and power tools and equipment. Incumbents in this classification may be required to lift more than fifty (50) pounds on a regular basis.

Experience in manual labor Previous parks or facility maintenance experience

Pay: $16.69 - $16.70 per hour
