Job Title: Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Supervisor
Status/FLSA Status: FT/Exempt
Reports to: Chief Nursing Officer
Location: Mason District Hospital, Havana, IL

Primary Function:
The EMS Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) operations within Mason District Hospital ensuring, high-quality patient care, regulatory compliance, assisting with budget management, staff coordination, and maintaining high standards. This role also involves assisting with strategic planning, policy development, and leadership, with a strong focus on collaboration with the Director of the Emergency Department.
Responsibilities:
1. Manage daily EMS operations, including providing guidance and performing in the paramedic role if necessary.
2. Fosters close collaboration with the Emergency Room Director and Emergency Management.
3. Assists in developing and maintaining clinical practice guidelines and protocols that align with relevant scopes of practice, applicable rules and regulations of governmental authorities, and institutional policies for emergency medical care provided by EMS staff.
4. Assists the Director of ED with patient chart and medical record reviews to ensure accuracy and completeness.
5. Leads quality improvement initiatives for EMS operations.
6. Hire, supervise, evaluate, and manages all Emergency Room Staff, including all scheduling for emergency room staff, performance reviews, and discipline.
7. Addresses disciplinary issues and ensures compliance with hospital policies and protocols.
8. Manage EMS equipment ensuring maintenance and functionality, including work orders, and assure that equipment has gone through proper maintenance and checks with the outsourced maintenance company and ensuring ambulance equipment and licensure are up to date.
9. Ensure that all EMS staff are up to date with certifications, licensures, and required education.
10. Assists and ensures that all required state, local and federal EMS data is submitted to the entity needed on a timely basis.
11. Assists in preparing, monitors and maintains annual operating and capital budget parameters in collaborations with Director of the Emergency Room and ensures accurate record keeping of all data.
12. Ensure accurate record keeping of all data including office and medical supplies regarding EMS.
13. Provide or coordinate continuous training/continuing education for EMS staff, which may include new procedures, protocols, and equipment.
14. Collaborate with other local entities such as fire departments, sheriff’s office, and other county Emergency Medical Services.
15. Maintains positive and confidential relationship with employees, fostering open communication and trust.
16. Willingness to work flexible hours if necessary and handle emergency situations/crises in a professional manner.
17. Participate in interdisciplinary committees within the hospital that focus on patient care issues and needs.
18. Foster a professional and confidential relationship with staff, encouraging open communication, trust, and a high standard of professionalism within the department and the hospital.

Qualifications:
1. 3-5 years of knowledge and/or level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a paramedic or degree in a course of study related to the occupational field or certification and job experience sufficient to satisfy the knowledge required for the position.
2. Must possess a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Illinois.
3. Must possess and maintain a State of Illinois Paramedic Level of Certification.
4. Must be certified in BLS, ACLS, and PALS
5. Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
6. Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive information with integrity.
7. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) and EMS software required.
8. The ability to assume responsibilities and work independently with minimum supervision is required.

Work is typically performed in an office but maybe within the Emergency Room or at an emergency scene and may expose the employee to noise, dirt, dust, grease, machinery, contagious or infectious agents. Vision requirements for this position include close vision including and must be able to distinguish between shades of color and utilize sense of smell.
