- Responsible for answering the telephone, receptionist duties, registering patients, scheduling appointments with appropriate health care provider, entering demographic and financial data into patient record, maintaining record systems, collecting statistical information, and providing support to clinic or hospital staff. Provides departmental expertise regarding billing systems and regulations. Responsible for management of referrals and tracking visits for optimum utilization. Processes patient referrals.
- Performs a wide variety of reception, clerical and administrative duties, including answering the telephone, registering patients, entering demographic and financial data into patient record, and maintaining records and systems.
- Sends referrals to insurance companies, calls the insurance companies when required for individual referrals, and then sends the referral when approved.
- Manages daily appointment schedules; schedules appointments with appropriate health care providers.
- Performs billing activities and provider relations and support. Interacts with payers and subcontracted providers to facilitate service authorization and payment.
- Completes and updates statistical reports on a daily/weekly/monthly basis for clinic or hospital leadership.
- Collaborates with other healthcare professionals as necessary to ensure smooth continuous care of the patients.
- Participates in staff meetings, patient care meetings, educational in-services, caregiver orientation and other professional activities. Maintains awareness of policies and procedures and performance standards.
- Uses computers and other basic office equipment to perform tasks.
