Job Summary

Dr. Nezami is looking to hire a student (who is currently enrolled in a masters program) to join his lab.
Dr. Nezami's primary expertise is in using computational methods as well as both in vitro and ex/in vivo experiments to tackle challenges in cardiology and cardiac surgery. Integrating multiple disciplines of engineering, computer science, and biomaterials, his lab at the Brigham and Woman’s Hospital of Harvard Medical School aims to achieve mechanistic understanding of several valvular and vascular diseases. Using elements of fluid dynamics, continuum mechanics, mass transport, and image processing, his team also assesses the performance and optimizes the design of assorted medical devices such as stents, prosthetic valves, endovascular implants, mechanical assist devices, and life support systems. Nezami Lab’s provably reliable tools as well provide predictive means and diagnostic tools for clinicians and regulatory officials to update clinical therapy and surgical guidelines.

Qualifications

We are looking for an ambitious Master's student eager to embark on an innovative journey with us. Together, we aim to revolutionize the way raw medical data is handled by developing an automated system. This system will seamlessly preprocess the data, ensuring it's primed for a myriad of medical image processing tasks as well as deep learning endeavors. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with a diverse range of medical imaging modalities and develop cutting-edge techniques for data preprocessing, including investigating and implementing state-of-the-art algorithms for image denoising, enhancement, and normalization, developing automated tools for data quality assessment and artifact detection, implementing data augmentation techniques to increase the robustness and generalizability of deep learning models, integrating the preprocessing pipeline with our existing deep learning frameworks and medical image processing software, and conducting comprehensive experiments to evaluate the impact of preprocessing on the performance of downstream tasks. By developing an automated preprocessing pipeline, the co-op student will contribute to the efficiency and reliability of our research, ultimately paving the way for more accurate and effective AI-powered medical applications. This project offers an excellent opportunity for the student to gain hands-on experience in medical image processing, deep learning, and software development while working alongside a team of experts in the field. It will also provide indispensable opportunity for engineering students to understand the intricacy of working with real clinical data and being trained on how to translate AI tools from desk to bedside.
