What are the responsibilities and job description for the Section Foreperson position at Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority?
The Section Foreperson will supervise and conduct all Right of Way (ROW) inspection and repair activities along assigned section of track.

- Assign, oversee, and direct maintenance/work crew activities
- Oversee track defect documentation
- Perform inspections of work sites
- Remain current with MBTA's Safety Plan as well as outlined responsibilities
- Ensure assignments were constructed safely and according to established schedules and standards
- Enforce Authority's safety standards to ensure the safety of workers and customers
- Ensure inventory levels, equipment, and facilities are protected in safe operating conditions
- Ensure budgetary goals are met and work is performed in a timely and cost-effective manner
- Assume supervisor responsibilities as needed
- Documents, maintains and prepares maintenance and personnel records on manual and computerized tracking systems (and provides technical instruction when necessary)
- Drive company or personal vehicle to work sites and/or transport crews or equipment as needed
- Respond to customer, vendor, and co-worker inquiries in a professional and courteous manner
- Assist in workforce management as needed
- Perform all other duties and projects that may be assigned
- A high school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) from an accredited institution with the ability to comprehend, communicate and respond to instructions, orders, signs, notices, inquiries, etc. in English.
- Three (3) years of experience in rail/track repair, maintenance, and construction
- Valid CDL Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Air Brake endorsement
- Effective organizational, analytical, multitasking, time management, documentation, and interpersonal skills
- Proficient with Microsoft Office, including but not limited to Word, Excel, or database applications
- Excellent customer service, conflict resolution, and communication skills
- Ability to provide internal and external customers with courteous and professional experiences
- Ability to adhere to rules, regulations, collective bargaining agreements (if applicable), and policies of the MBTA including the EEO, anti-discrimination, anti-harassment, and anti-retaliation policies
- Ability to pass a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check, background screening, and the MBTA’s medical requirements, including a physical examination and drug and alcohol screening.
- Have a satisfactory work record for the two (2) years immediately before the closing date of this posting, including overall employment, job performance, discipline, and safety records (infractions and/or offenses occurring after the closing of the posting and before the filling of a vacancy may preclude a candidate from consideration for selection).
- Ability to uphold the rights and interests of the MBTA while building and maintaining effective relationships with employees and co-workers
- Ability to work all shifts and/or locations assigned, directed, or necessary for this position, including (for some transit/operations roles) up to twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week as necessary to accommodate severe weather conditions, emergencies, or any other circumstances that may potentially impact service or the safety of service
- Ability to supervise or work effectively with a diverse workforce
Preferred Experience and Skills
- Supervisory experience in rail/track repair, maintenance and/or construction
Salary : $48
