- Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of laboratory techniques and procedures.
- Familiarity with common laboratory equipment and instruments used in research experiments.
- Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and scientific software tools.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively convey experimental procedures, results, and challenges.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under general supervision of a higher-level staff member, carries out a broad range of laboratory activities and procedures. Monitors supplies inventory and runs errands for laboratory. Tracks laboratory funding and orders and performs other general lab duties as assigned. Person will be trained in the specific laboratory and safety procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Carries out a range of basic to moderately complex lab techniques.
2. Maintains the laboratory mouse strain collection.
3. May operate and maintain moderate to complex lab equipment such as Tonolab, microscopes, centrifuges and other scientific equipment related to research activity.
4. Monitors supplies inventory; generates orders and restocking requests; maintains various pieces of equipment including, but not limited to, balance, centrifuges, microscopes, incubators etc.
5. Monitors and reconciles grant, contract, discretionary, departmental accounts: reviews MEEI financial systems reports, analyzes data and identifies discrepancies; investigates and resolves inappropriate entries; communicates regularly with the Principal Investigator (PI) about financial aspects of the lab.
6. Must have effective oral and written communication skills, the ability to coordinate multiple job tasks and to work independently to identify, investigate and resolve problems, prioritize and complete responsibilities (often within strict deadlines) with minimal supervision.
7. Assists other lab personnel in setting up and performing experiments where appropriate.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor's degree in biological or physical sciences.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Research/lab and office setting. Exposure to lab equipment and other research items/specimens.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Lifting and carrying lab/research items/objects and specimens where required.
