What are the responsibilities and job description for the Field Auditor position at Massachusetts Laborers' Benefit Funds?
Position Description:
The field auditor is responsible for conducting field audits of over 600 contractors, including those operating outside Massachusetts in the U.S. and Canada, to ensure compliance with collective bargaining agreements.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Perform Field Audits for our over 600 contractors with collective bargaining agreements including all out of state contractors active in the continental US and Canada.
- Responsible for the timely and accurate audit of payroll and other records to ensure the correct reporting and payment of benefit contributions according to the applicable union contract. The auditor will gather all pertinent information, compare audit results with previously submitted contractor reports and bill contractors for under or unreported hours and/or contributions, accordingly.
- Responsible for enforcement of Fund office policy regarding the timely receipt of contributions from contractors in accordance with the prevailing union contract.
- Assist Fund Legal Counsel with research, locating documents, providing copies, and maintaining the legal files on all contractors that have been placed with the attorney for further collection action.
- Provide customer service for laborers, Fund Legal Counsel, and internal staff.
- Other Duties as assigned by Department Director.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited 4-year college/university or equivalent experience with a multi-employer, Taft-Hartley, and defined benefit plans.
- 3 years’ experience in Payroll Auditing/Accounting.
- Experience with and willingness to travel (sometimes overnight and days at a time) to out-of-state contractors in the US and Canada.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
- Excellent listening, verbal and written communication and problem-solving skills;
- Strong computer skills; knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel;
- Capable of working with contractors on electronic remittance issues;
- Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment;
- Ability to resolve contractors’ problems and to demonstrate patience and remain courteous when faced with difficult contractors/laborers;
- Ability to work independently as well as interact well within a team environment;
- Must be willing to travel to on-site construction offices in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont, as well as occasional travel to other states to audit contractors who have performed work in the jurisdiction of the Massachusetts Laborers’ Benefit Funds.
- Must possess a valid driver's license and a reliable vehicle.

Pay: $59,020.52 - $68,806.92 per year
