General Responsibilities
Please note that this is a non-benefitted, temporary/contract position Engineering Training Officer- The Training Ship Patriot State offers a unique opportunity to sail a training cruise with cadets during Sea Term 2025 from Jan 06 th - Feb 25th. This will be the MAIDEN voyage of the NSMV Patriot State. Following a week of training, NSMV Patriot State departs Buzzards Bay on January 11th to support the teaching and training of freshmen, sophomores, and senior cadets in shipboard engineering systems. All sailing aboard NSMV Patriot State must hold a T.W.I.C. card; MMA Human Resources will assist in the attainment of the credential for those who are eligible but do not hold a current T.W.I.C.
The successful candidate will instruct students in the “hands-on” laboratory and lecture components of cadet engineering and possess excellent diesel engineering knowledge. Conducted six days a week during daytime hours, training includes evaluating cadet S.T.C.W. assessments and evaluation. Preferred areas of specialization include combustion engines, machine and hand tools, hydronic heating systems, brazing and soldering, marine sanitation, instrumentation, hydraulics, freshwater distillation, steam generators, electrical motors, heat exchangers, pumps, and variable frequency drives.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Second Assistant Engineer’s Unlimited U.S.C.G. credential for Steam, Motor, or both with current S.T.C.W. Certifi cations
- Prior engineering training experience preferred.
- The ideal candidate enjoys mentoring and working with the students.
- Must be able to communicate effectively both written and verbally and possess computer skills.
