About the Role:
The Residential Life Director plays a pivotal role in fostering an inclusive, supportive, and leadership-driven environment within the highly structured culture of the Massachusetts Maritime Academy. This position is dedicated to guiding cadets in their personal and professional growth while ensuring an equitable and disciplined residential experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Foster an environment of discipline, leadership development, and respect for academy traditions among approximately 200 cadets.
- Participate in Sea Term as assigned—a 52-day training ship deployment—fulfilling responsibilities that mirror onshore duties.
- Utilize academy technology and resources to uphold and enforce policies and procedures related to cadet housing, safety, and community standards.
- Conduct regular inspections of cadet rooms and provide constructive guidance to ensure compliance with uniform and room inspection standards.
- Actively participate in morning formation at 7:15 AM during the academic year, reinforcing cadet engagement and accountability.
- Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the Leadership Lab and Cadet Leadership Development Standard Operating Procedures.
- Serve in an on-call, overnight capacity, one night per week throughout the academic year, providing guidance and ensuring adherence to academy regulations.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree
- Ability to collaborate with a range of individuals, including professional staff, non-professional staff, and students.
- Must be able to participate in an overnight on-call rotation on campus, which may involve crisis response and intervention.
- Must be able to participate in the annual 52 consecutive day sea-term aboard the academy's training ship.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and web-based applications.
