Major responsibilities :
Provide resources, research, training, and strategic leadership to local affiliates, field staff, regional networks, college / university coalitions, and MTA governance and divisions to advance the priorities of locals and the statewide union for maximizing power in collective bargaining and building local capacity by engaging members in the life of the union.
Essential Job Functions :
- Identify points of leverage for bargaining through research, data and power analysis
- Provide research and strategic support to locals, regional networks, college / university coalitions, and the statewide union for bargaining campaigns, including multiple forms of democratized bargaining (open, coordinated, coalition, bargaining for the common good), that achieve bargaining standards and build rank and file power
- Provide analysis of local school district / college budgets for local bargaining and assist locals with understanding school / college budgets, costing out, and strategic campaign research
- Partner with Regional Organizers, Field Rep-Organizers, and regional networks to develop regional bargaining standards, strategies and campaign plans and support the activities of the regional networks
Specific Responsibilities :
Share expertise and provide guidance to Field Rep Organizers and locals on shared complex issues such as health insurance, evaluations, job security and contingent work, and moreCoordinate the development and maintenance of an easily searchable database of existing and model contract languageResearch and develop model contract languageDevelop popular education training, in conjunction with TPL and other field staff, to support strategic bargaining and contract enforcement strategies, including bargaining for the common good, open bargaining, and contract action teamsDevelop popular education training, in conjunction with TPL and other field staff, for local leaders and members on how to research and analyze data to develop and support contract proposals Job Title : Bargaining Campaign & Strategy Specialist Division : Field & Organizing Reports to title : F&O Regional Manager Designation : FSOCoordinate with the Government Relations and Grassroots divisions to connect bargaining priorities with legislative, ballot, and electoral campaignsAdvise field managers and MTA governance on trends or indicators that impact bargaining goals and organizing initiativesServe as liaison for NEA data collection and analysis, surveys, research initiatives, and grantsParticipate in bargaining sessions on occasion to provide expertise and mentoringContribute to building a unified and powerful statewide union dedicated to social, racial, and economic justiceProvide support to MTA committees, task forces, and other teams as assignedOther related duties as needed or assigned within areas of responsibilityQualifications :
Commitment to the mission and strategic goals of the MTA and the organized education professionKnowledge of organizing principles and ability to develop and implement comprehensive strategic campaign plansSubstantial experience bargaining union contracts, including drafting contract language, developing negotiation strategies, leading negotiations, and organizing contract action teams and other member engagement strategiesExperience and familiarity with multiple forms of democratized bargaining including open, coordinated, and coalition bargaining and bargaining for the common goodUnderstanding of key concepts and commitment to dismantling systems of oppression that create inequity by race, class and genderExperience utilizing data for targeting and developing strategic campaignsAbility to analyze budgets, manipulate data and produce reports and presentationsFacilitation, training, and presentation skills including ability to train members and leaders using a popular education modelUnderstanding of and commitment to a vision of a labor movement that advances social, racial and economic justice and a common good agendaAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationships and teams with staff, leaders, and membersBachelors and Masters preferredProficiency with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPointEffective writing and communication skillsAbility to work well under a tight deadline and in a team environmentAbility to work evenings, weekends, and long hours when neededDriver?s license and access to a car requiredMulti-lingual skills a plusMTA reserves the right to waive any qualifications at its discretionThe MTA is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
