Semester: Spring 2025 and Summer 2025
Adjunct Non-Credit ESOL Instructors in the Continuing Education Division are hired as part time instructors who provide instruction for non-credit ESOL courses on an as needed basis and based upon sufficient course enrollment. They develop and deliver course content using high quality pedagogical techniques to ensure maximum student success and learning. They also work with the Continuing Education Division team to ensure compliance with all college administrative policies and practices.
Essential Functions:
The duties of the Adjunct Non-Credit ESOL Instructor include, but are not limited to:
- Develop and revise instruction/curriculum as needed; aligning it to the Massachusetts English Language Proficiency Standards for Adult Education.
- Assess student progress, advise and support students as they pursue development of their English language skills.
- Assist students with setting academic and professional goals.
- Monitor email communications from students and the college and respond in a timely manner, as appropriate.
- Ensure that classes meet for the allotted time on every scheduled meeting day during the semester.
- Provide timely and consistent feedback to students.
- Maintain accurate student records of attendance, participation, and grades.
- Meet all deadlines for grade submission to the Registrar's Office, student participation reports, and/or other administrative documentation as required.
- Works collaboratively with Division staff.
- Focus on the Commonwealth's Equity Agenda by applying related best practices throughout all job functions.
- Participate in required Human Resources and Information Technology Services trainings, new instructor orientations, and periodic check-in meetings with Division staff.
Job Requirements:
Skills/Experience/Training Required:
- Bachelor's degree
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with adult students from diverse educational and ethnic backgrounds in an instructional setting; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Familiarity with learning management systems and other remote learning technology
- Demonstrated understanding and ability to respond appropriately with respect for the various cultures and needs of ESOL adult students
- Demonstrated ability to adapt teaching style and materials to meet the individual needs of students
- Proven technological proficiency, which may include Microsoft Office 365 applications
- Reliable transportation in order to travel to and from meetings, trainings, or campus and community locations as required
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in education or related field
- Adult Basic Education (ESOL) licensure or TESOL/TEFL or other related certification
- Experience teaching ESOL adult learners
- Understanding of adult second language acquisition and literacy processes
- Demonstrated experience integrating technology into the teaching and learning processes, which may include providing blended, online, and distance learning opportunities for students
- Demonstrated experience in ESOL curriculum development
- Ability to communicate in a language in addition to English
- Demonstrated understanding of the community college mission and role with a focus on promoting diversity, equity and inclusion
- Excellent organizational, communication, interpersonal and technology skills

Position Status: Part-time, non-benefitted; Adjunct instructors are hired on an as needed basis each semester.
Semester: Spring 2025 and Summer 2025
Supervisor: Associate Dean, Continuing Education
Hours: Designated weekday evenings, 5:30 pm - 9:00 pm; not to exceed 18 hours per week
Salary: $35.31 per hour
Worksite: Assignments will include Brockton or Canton campuses (in-person classes) or online (hybrid classes) as needed.
