The division of science and mathematics at Massasoit Community college is looking for a dynamic and engaged individual to serve as a laboratory technician/safety officer. Duties include working with faculty to assess laboratory needs, ordering and maintaining inventory of required supplies and equipment, creation of an organized prep plan to ensure that materials for labs (both in person and remote) are prepared and ready for instruction, cleanup and disposal of materials and equipment (including hazardous materials), maintenance and repair of equipment, budget monitoring and planning, and other tasks associated with the operation of the instructional laboratory spaces.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Serve as divisional safety officer and member of the divisional safety committee.
- Participate in required training and maintain appropriate certifications
- Provide training to faculty in laboratory and chemical safety.
- Inspect and maintains safety and laboratory equipment.
- Develop, approve and implement safety protocols.
- Arrange for proper disposal of chemical and biological waste.
- Ensure instructional laboratories are equipped to meet the curricular needs of all laboratory courses.
- Familiarity with basic laboratory equipment, and able to use equipment to make and prepare various solutions of specific percentages and molarities.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, or closely related field; with one (1) year experience and/or training involving laboratory functions and safety compliance (see below); or and equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Previous training or ability to attend the following safety training courses: OSHA Emergency Response (HAZWOPER), Hazardous Waste Management (RCRA), Hazardous Materials Transportation (U.S. DOT), and other laboratory safety training courses.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.
Preferred:
- Familiarity with laboratory equipment and procedures, such as solution prep and measurement.
- Experience working in a laboratory setting, preferably an instructional lab.
- Strong computer skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Access, Excel, Outlook).
- Familiarity with video and web conferencing software.
- Certification in RCRA, OSHA and US DOT.
- Familiarity with 100 level biology and chemistry courses.
- Familiarity with anatomy and physiology, microbiology and cellular biology.
- Familiarity with online instruction.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and make decisions.

Additional Information:
Position Status: Full-time, State Funded, benefitted Massachusetts Community College Council (MCCC) position
Hours: Monday through Friday (7:00 AM - 3:00 PM) with occasional work on weekends and evenings, as needed. This position is a 12-month position.
Salary: 63,159 - $72,407 annually. Salary is commensurate with education, experience and based on the MCCC Classification Study.
Worksite: Assignments will include all Massasoit sites and additional locations as necessary.
