Position: Special Education Instructional Assistant (Full-time)
Reports to: Head of Special Education with daily supervision from the special education teacher.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of two years of college or satisfactory completion of the Pennsylvania Department of Education Testing requirement for para-educators
- Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.
- Related work experience.
Job Overview: To assist in providing instruction to individuals or small groups in the classroom consistent with student IEP goals. The Special Education Instructional Assistant supports individual students in the general education setting before, during, and after instruction. An understanding, patient and receptive attitude will be displayed toward the students. Assists with student and classroom management.
Responsibilities:
- Working with an individual student or students to support academic progress and progress on IEP goals
- Supporting student(s) for inclusion in general education classes
- Helping student master equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher
- Guiding independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work as assigned by the teacher
- Assisting with the supervision of the student during meals, emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, or field trips.
- Assisting with supervision of daily routine and schedule.
- Participating in appropriate staff development as required to ensure professional growth
- Participating in classroom team meetings and/or staff meetings as required by job assignment
- Maintaining progress reports and daily logs
- Supporting in a 1:1 role when necessary
- Respecting and following the policies and procedures established for the class by the teacher.
- Follow the policies and procedures established by MaST Community Charter School.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Terms of Employment: Ten (10) months. Contract terms and salary to be determined by the Board of Trustees.
