Overview
The Bus Monitor plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of students during their transportation to and from school. This position involves supervising students on the bus, taking attendance, promoting positive behavior, and providing assistance as needed. The ideal candidate will have experience working with children, particularly in special education settings, and possess strong communication and conflict management skills.

Duties

  • Supervise students while they are boarding, riding, and exiting the bus to ensure their safety.
  • Take attendance efficiently and quickly as students are getting on the bus.
  • Assist students with special needs or behavioral challenges, providing support as required.
  • Educate students on proper bus behavior and safety protocols.
  • Communicate effectively with students to foster a positive environment.
  • Implement behavior management strategies to maintain order on the bus.
  • Respond to conflicts or issues among students calmly and effectively.
  • Administer first aid when necessary and ensure all health protocols are followed.
  • Collaborate with bus drivers and school staff to address any concerns regarding student behavior or safety.

Skills

  • Experience working with children in various settings, including childcare or classroom environments.
  • Knowledge of special education practices and how to support diverse learning needs.
  • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with students, parents, and staff.
  • Ability to manage conflicts and implement behavior management techniques.
  • First aid certification is preferred but not mandatory; willingness to obtain certification is essential.
  • A compassionate approach towards children, demonstrating patience and understanding in all interactions.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $15.00 - $16.00 per hour

Expected hours: 25 – 30 per week
